I just started taking this medication. Did you have these side effects because of the duration that you took this drug or can it happen right away? I take it for prostate reasons so I was wondering if I should ask my doctor to switch it to something else. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

It most likely is finasteride. It does the same thing to me but one tends to adjust over time. I suggest you discuss cutting the pill in half and taking 2.5 mg instead of 5 mg. I did so and side effects dramatically improved and you still get the benefit of finasteride.
