I am not on Medicare Part D. I retired from the federal government. I have BCBS full medical and prescription plan (you pay a premium) that I kept after retiring. It covers my prescriptions and my wifes. BCBS gave us the option about a year ago to go to a BCBS Medicare plan that basically followed what Medicare would pay for. I declined and stayed on my full FEP plan as had a ton of more paperwork and a lot of prior approval paperwork and only giving 30 days of a drug versus 90 day on some, not all, of our medications.
My wife is a diabetic. Medicare is supposed to cover her insulin under Part B. But we can't find a pharmacy that understands they need to file the cost for the insulin to part B Medicare not prescription part D. So we pay the 60.00 co-pay that my BCBS charges as we gave up with all the red tape.

Medicare coverage for insulin depends on how it is administered.
Part B covers insulin used with a traditional insulin pump - a traditional, durable medical equipment (DME) pump. A 20% coinsurance applies after the Part B deductible is met.
