Scar tissue after knee replacement
I had knee replacement surgery 6 weeks ago . Through PT I have been working on breaking up the scar tissue only for it to regrow by the time I get back to PT two days later. I have been massaging at home, using a hand held massager and roller. It is painful and swollen. I am getting very disheartened. Any suggestions as to what else I can do. Has anyone had laser treatments to break up scar tissue? Were they effective?

I had a RTKR in April 2018. My the end of May, I had so much scar tissue that I couldn’t even get up from a seated position ir extend my leg without excruciating pain and crepitus. Scar tissue had frozen my patella, and the ROM was nearly non existent. Had an arthroscopic lysis of adhesions yesterday, and actually feel better despite the surgical pain and swelling. Now on a mission to find out what caused the problem and keep it from happening again!
YIKES - I have to give in to TKR on MON. 7/30. Had stem cells, may be I should have gone out of the country to get cells from Placenta. After delivery, Drs. can throw placenta in trash or put it in our bodies. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle or discard. Pick one!
I also had arthroscopic lysis two weeks ago. The first night I did not sleep, set the alarm for every two hours, stretched, rode exercycle and iced. The next three nights I set the alarm for 2:30 am got up and did my routine. Since then I have been doing the routine every three hours except for 6 hours at night. Resting ROM 105, stressed ROM 120. Need to get my resting ROM up.
I had TKR 2 years ago and can bend my knee very well, but it is still swollen due to scar tissue, which does not want to break up. My tendons are still sore - patella tendon and the LCL- they are still giviing me trouble and pain. Does anybody have the same problem ?
@briard, same damn thing. I've had numerous scopes, cortisone within 2 years. Going for a 4th scope I think.
I hope you do real well! ❤️ I’m sorry the stem cells weren’t enough of a success!
Wow! Apparently we are 1-3% of knees. Trying to get to the bottom of this scar tissue, aka arthrofibrosis! I hope your scope offers you relief!
I had left knee done June 2017. Was a breeze. Blew through it. Had right knee four weeks ago and my knee hurts EVERYWHERE. Top sides back. The surgeon says all looks good. Loves my bending numbers as does the therapist. But two days after PT I am hobbling again. I’m trying to get back to driving. My school bus. These posts have been awesome. I thought it was only me. I’m nauseated all the time with little appetite. Speedy recovery to you all
I needed TKR, because my meniscus was shredded (words of the surgeons) and I am too old for partial, but apparently my body tried too hard to heal itself and created too much scar tissue, which I am now trying to get rid off. Seeing another surgeon on Friday - maybe he has another solution - and Abby, I am glad it worked out for you. I still have swelling after 2 years and my knee sometimes feels warm - so still inflammation in there. My patella tendon as well as my LCL are not working right and the LCL is still swollen a little - hang there all - it takes a lot of patience to be a patient ! And getting older is only for the young !!
Briard,
I too scar quickly. We think it may be because of keloids. My Dr. scoped me, saw massive scar tissue and then cut out the scar tissue before a manipulation under anesthesia. It seems to be working. I reached 125-degree range of motion under duress and 110 at rest. Finally making progress after 10 months. Still swollen but going down every week.
