Pelvic Floor Repair/ Chronic Itching
I had pelvic floor repair in 2021...both cystocele and rectocele. I have mesh "struts" (if you will) but the "sling" was cadaver skin graft (that dissolves) because the mesh is not authorized for that use. I've had chronic itching of the labia, and inner butt cheeks since. I'm miserable and can't imagine what's causing it... and the doc hasn't a clue. Just prescribed cortisone cream. I'm wondering if I could be allergic to the mesh or if anyone has experienced this type of side effect or allergy. Or had any testing they can share.

Oh I am so sorry to hear this. Does the doctor think you have a fungal infection? I hope this resolves soon. Did the obgyn do the surgery? If no can you get looked over. I have used betamethasone cream and I got acne boils on my mucus membranes.
Could it be a yeast infection? I developed one after we started using a bidet. I wasn't drying myself thoroughly. In my case it was dealt with through a short course of antibiotics.
Question why did they use a mesh that was not authorized for the type of surgery you had.
You could be reacting to the mesh, As well as a yeast infection. Need to find out what that mesh is made from and if there’s anything in it, you are sensitive to. I am so sorry to hear about your problems. I hope you could get this figured out.
Yes my gynocologist did the surgery...and he's given me Diflucan for yeast but didn't make a difference. : (
There has been a mesh controversy for a few years with some women reacting. They restricted the use for larger amounts in any area except the "struts" as I call them. It's safe as far as I know but I'm wondering if the substrate that the mesh is made of has something that's affecting. Good idea to try and find out what it's made of. I do tend to be ultra sensitive to chemicals so who knows. Thanks for the suggestion.
I wish! That would be an easy cure. : )
I haven’t had that type of surgery, but wanted to add that if you rule out yeast, bacteria and allergic reaction, you might consider nerve damage causing it. I’ve had intense itching before with no apparent cause and read that nerves can cause severe itching. There are meds for it and you could explore the med to bring you some relief. Hopefully, you will find a remedy.
Did the doctor give you a card of what the mesh was made of? Do you think you might be allergic to it? I have a polyurethane allergy and it is in everything.
For some devices that I have in my unfortunately I have stuff in me.
