Bowel movement issues

Bowel movement issues.

I am 40, male, white, 6' tall, 155lbs, take no medications, walk several miles a day, no known diseases and in general no health problems, no history of problems either. Idon't drink soft drinks, mostly coffee and water. I eat some junk food but not an excessive amount.

2 or 3 times a week I have a bowel movement. The first time I do its a good amount with no problems, but an hour or two later I have another that is smaller, then another smaller and it goes on most of the day till finally I have one tiny movement and I am done. After the first movement the rest usually preceded by a slight stingling paint at my rectum. And as the movements go on through the day the pieces of stool get smaller, some movements may be 4 to 6 small pieces smooth and a inch long. This has been going on several months now. First movement is usually like 10am and I'm finally done around 7 or 8 pm that day with having to take up to 10 trips to the bathroom throughout the day.

Every once in a while though while rare I have a bowel movement in a few larger pieces and then I am done, not having another movement again for the day. It's like a normal movement but they don't happen often.

I have similar symptoms. I see a GI in November. I am making dietary changes. Doing research I think these symptoms of change in heart rate etc might be vasovagal syncope.

In my experience too much fiber created conditions like that and then led to additional problems. One issue people have is eating too much fiber with not enough water. Trying a lower fiber diet for a few days, with lots of water and a dose of miralax, can reduce any inflammation and help recover regularity. Best wishes!

I don't completely empty my bowels but go several times a day. I am still backed up so I understand. I was diagnosed with a rectocele and just looked to see if men can have them and the answer is yes. Also, my GI added senokot daily for me and it has helped. We are now moving on to a prescription that will hopefully empty the stool burden I have. I hope you find something thst helps you.

I had a small bowel obstruction back in December which put me on a low fiber diet and then had me on miralax almost every day just to go to the bathroom I stopped taking miralax and started taking an olive oil that a friend put me on since taking that I don't have to take miralax anymore and I have regular bowel movements daily sometimes every other day but mostly daily. I ran out of the olive oil while I was out of town once didn't take it for about a week and my bowel movements got bad it was hard to go to the bathroom when I did go I started back up on my olive oil and within another week I'm having regular bowel movements again I've spoken to my nutritionist at the Mayo clinic and she tells me that it doesn't hurt if it works.

I was having similar issues. I worked with a pelvic floor therapist and a nutritionist. They recommended a few exercises you can find on YouTube. As well as adding more soluble fibers to my diet. This has helped tremendously in getting a complete movement in one go

I have had one episode during the night. I had taken extra fiber that evening trying to relieve constipation. The backup was forced out violently and I had a vasovagal episode of being cold/clammy, sweating profusely, racing pulse, nausea. I thought I was going to die on the toilet. It only lasted a few mins, but scared me to death.

I've had this too! I don't remember if I took anything beforehand? I don't think so...Now I have gone the other way...no urges to go anymore. Don't understand what is going on in my body anymore, but am miserable living life around BMs.

what do I look for on YouTube? I wondered if this had something to do with pelvic floor as I had total hysterectomy about 15 yrs ago and another major abd surgery 15 yrs before that. So glad you have found help. Gives me hope there is an end to this stuff.

Yes pelvic floor exercises.
Abdominal massages b4 going. A squat stool to go under your legs also helps get the right angle so nothing is pinched off

You are not alone. I lost the urge to defecate three years ago and am totally dependent on laxatives. And trying to live a normal life where evry other day I need to be near a bathroom.
Maybe I will try the olive oil. Although without a gall bladder that might be asking for trouble.
