Does anyone suffer from random hand cramping and finger contractures?

Posted by kalliope56 @kalliope56, Jun 15, 2023

I am at wit’s end with a problem I’ve been having with my hands and fingers. My hands randomly have spasms and my fingers randomly contract. In particular, the fingers that contract are my index finger in my middle finger and occasionally my thumb. My fingers curl inward towards my palm and will not release for a few minutes. I saw a hand specialist last week who took x-rays and checked me for carpal tunnel and trigger finger, and said I did not have any major issues with my hands. He thought the issue might be spine/nerve related and he referred me to a neurologist. The neurologist ordered blood tests to see if I had any vitamin/mineral deficiencies and also ordered a thyroid test. All results have come back normal. Something has got to be causing the painful spasms and the finger contractions. The neurologist prescribed Gabapentin, and I just started taking it. Has anyone else had experience with random hand spasms and finger contractions?

I love calcium citrate from Doublewood. Have been taking it for years for other issues. This may sound weird but if you find no reason for cramps, try taking a slug of pickle juice , apple cider vinegar or mustard when you get the cramps.. I swear by it only once it didn't work. I also use it for leg cramps.I have PsA and my hands cramp from holding a book while I read or struggle to open jars. Old age . It's beautifal isn't it?

My symptoms also. Never tried the pickle juice, mustard cure although I know of it. A girl friend was told by her dr about it for her leg cramps.

Everything was normal and then 2 days ago my little finger is bent out to the side and flexed. I cannot unflex except by manually straightening the finger. Doc said tendosynovitis. Start his 6-day course of oral prednisone and have a hand referral. It's really weird how this happened out of the blue. I do have osteoarthritis and as far as I know not rheumatoid my sister does have lupus. Very scary how this comes out of the blue. Anybody else had this problem?

My hands and fingers cramp after golf and tennis. Someone told me to soak them in the hottest water I can stand. It works for me. Others have said I might be low on magnesium.

I get tingling and burning sensation to my fingers and hand. Sometimes the burning sensation is unbearable. I have been diagnosed with carpel tunnel and have had 2 injections. Surgery has been recommended but timing terrible for me as I am 80 and take care of my 90 year old husband who is in remission from MM and suffers from long covid. Any suggestions other than surgery

I had this happen a couple times with my index finger and yesterday during Pilates my 2nd and 3rd fingers cramped really hard. Now my forearm and hand are sore and still get a sharp pain in 3rd finger .

I have had this problem for decades. Gripping a steering wheel, using utensils, holding things. The thumb goes inward towards palm, other fingers crap to the palm, it goes into a claw.
I have been trying to get answers for years. My feet do the same, hard tendons and ligaments curl my arch, toes curl under and foot/ankle twist.
These are NOT one time things, but all the time. My potassium, magnesium, B12, everything is perfect. I also have bleeding thre my skin. Arms worse, just spontaneous bleeding. Wake up with more, mostly on my arms.
