Anyone tried Kevzara for PMR?

Posted by kass8174 @kass8174, Mar 12 12:20pm

I am 72 yo dx with PMR 1 1/2 years ago on Prednisone for treatment. It helped but threw me into diabetes! Since then wanted to get off Pred and went down 1mg per 2weeks. Finally off on March but symptoms so much worse. Tried 3 different prescription nsaids and not helping( but off diabetes meds!!) Anyone tried Kevzara? My family Doc told me to ask Rheumatologist about this med.

I’m on shot 14. It enabled me to reduce Prednisone from 10mg to .5mg and dropping.

My first was March 31st...I'm down to 1 mg prednisone and hurt all the time. However, I'm working in my 1 acre yard trying to keep the weeds down every day it doesn't rain or isn't too hot (and that's not many)! I can't see if this is going to work or not, but assume I have to stay off the prednisone after 12 1/2 years regardless! My fingers are crossed for all of us...🙂

I took Prednisone for 12 years too. I was able to get off prednisone. The full effects from Kevzara might take 3 months but it might take longer for your adrenals to recover.

I was able to taper down to 3 mg but then I needed to stay on that 3 mg dose for another 6 months until my cortisol level improved. Being able to stay on a low dose of Prednisone for an "extended period of time" will give your adrenals a chance to recover and produce some cortisol again. I had to resist the urge to increase my Prednisone dose. It wasn't easy but after my cortisol level improved and after I tapered off Prednisone, my quality of life improved.

I took Kevzara for 4 months and felt good very quickly. I tapered without pain from 12 mg prednisone to 7 mg. I had to quit to have several surgeries and I am still at 7 mg. I wish I could take it again. It is worth trying. Best of luck.
