SLEEP STUDY-SLEEP APNEA

Posted by barb2025 @barb2025, Sep 20, 2019

I had a sleep study done a 3 years ago and they could not get a good reading because client in bed in next room kept waking me up with all his complaints. So I am back at it again picking up a unit this Monday and wearing it at home for two nights. I do know I definitely have sleep apnea. So my questions for you all that have CPAP units what has been your experiences with the different types of units [full nose-partial] also what about sanitizing them. Should I invest in the unit that you see on TV all the time. I work with a guy that just puts his tubing in the dishwasher-not so sure about that. I would love to hear back from anyone that is currently using a CPAP. Thanks in advance.!

I’m not familiar with the ResMed C20. I did find an N20 nasal mask. Is your mask a nasal or full face mask?

Thank you for your service!! I am so sorry you have had to go thru all of this..I lost my husband because the VA refused to do a biopsy until I called the Patient advocate in DC.. he got one..5 months later.. they are in need of prayer for improvement!! Still.. this was 14 years ago..our Veterans deserve the best care!! I'll pray for you !!

If, as a veteran, a VA dr tells me that they can't see me for more than 28 days then i have them set me up with an outside dr or firm that CAN see me sooner...they are obligated to do so. Don't let them tell you differently.

Thank you for your prayers...they're always needed in our lives. It grievess me to hear & see what brother & sister veterans are having to deal with from the VA medical arena. If a veteran is told they cannot be seen by a VA medical person for more than 28 days out then the vA is required to send the veteran to an outside dr, firm or lab regardless. They probably won't tell you that but it is a truism...force the issue with them. You may have to get you PCP to send a messaage to community care to get this done & there's also your state senator who can do so. The VA is notorious for denying & prolonging tests etc for claims issues. I have an atty working a claim for me that the VA has been denying since 2016...he has been successful in getting the claim approved after all these years. He had to send it to an Appellate Judge in DC...to get it approved.

Salute to you for your service!! I'm so sorry that you had to battle the VA for so long to get your claim..I've done quite a few with them.. while my 100% DAV (Vietnam) husband was alive and after he passed.. Shouldn't be so hard!! I am glad they have changed the regs so that Veterans are not trapped in the health care merry go round of hell..I always got my husband's records from the VA as they are notorious for destroying incriminating ones..IDK if they still use the SF95 for grievance..(wrongful death etc..) The one I filed was 9 inches of binder thru my congressional rep's office ..but they rule on themselves).. Then of course I battled for my widow's benefits.. had a back windshield decal (whole back to Nissan Altima) that said'.. his name dob and dod and CASUALITY OF THE VA..and "he was a man ..not a budget line item") I've changed vehicles so it's off now .. he's been gone 14 years.. but every Veteran I see I can help I do.. My Daddy was a WW2 vet..joined at 17.. he got a 60% at about age 90 and passed a month prior to his 99th bd.. he wouldn't go for the 100%.. I really try to get the Veteran to go for the 100% for the spouse..I can't tell you how well my sweet David still takes care of me.. even tho he's gone..all my medical bills!! Been really sick ..all covered..his 365 boots on the ground Lai Khe 68-69 Big Red One Army Infantry.. have taken care of me..God bless you and thank you for your service!!

I’ve been using Philips machines for a decade and they’re quiet and well-designed but not particularly small. I use a full-face mask with no vertical piece going up between the eyes which feels less claustrophobic than the ones that have that piece. It does take time to get used to these machines but they seem to be the best solution for apnea. I clean my mask every morning in hot, sudsy water and rinse and dry thoroughly. The water reservoir and hose ditto but just once per week. It’s a bit of a palaver but I don’t think I’ve ever picked-up a chest infection or similar because I’m very careful with hygiene around the equipment. I seriously doubt that cleaning the hose in a dishwasher would be a good idea - you will know by the smell! After cleaning and (always) thorough rinsing, the mask should have no smell at all! Good luck with your CPAP!

I never clean my tubing - just replace it on a regular schedule (whatever that is that Medicare allows) and have never had a problem. Been using a CPAP for 11 years. I pop off the nasal piece every few days and hand wash it. I wash the head gear maybe every month or so. I change the machine filter when it looks dirty. I only use distilled water in the water tank and top it off daily if it's only half gone. Otherwise I dump it out in the potted plants and refill, hand washing every few weeks probably. I think people go WAY overboard with their cleaning routines, it's not necessary.

Perhaps that’s ok with a nasal piece but a full-face mask is different and does need to be cleaned daily, I believe.
