Does anyone have enlarged lymph nodes in their neck from Long Covid?

Posted by lindy1965 @lindy1965, Sep 15, 2023

Since starting this nightmare in early 2020, I have had this large ‘lump’ sitting over my carotid artery on the left side of my neck. When I first noticed, I showed it to my neurologist at an appointment thinking it was a lymph node. He said, I can see your heart beat through the ‘lump’ and he showed visible signs of concern and immediately sent me for MRI of my carotid arteries. That was all fine, thank goodness. From there I was sent to a vascular Doc for ultrasound, CT scan etc… all results came back normal.
Today at a physical with the nurse practitioner at my PC office, I mentioned that it is still very much present. Now, 2 years later, they are super concerned that it is an enlarged lymph node and are sending me for further diagnostics. I feel like this should have been explored when I first mentioned it. 🤷‍♀️. Does anyone else have this symptom?
So of course now I’ve got one more worry.

Hello, kind of having the same, was it in you armpits and were they like showing up interchangeably? And for like how long did this happen before they disappeared.

sammda, No, in my neck. They finally went back down to normal.

Don’t play with this lymph node. My daughter had Thyroid Cancer 2 years ago and had a complete Thyroidectomy. She has recovered and is doing well now, but it’s a very long surgery due to all the nerves that stand in the way there. She didn’t loose her voice, as they said she might which is great, because she’s a teacher! The good news with Thyroid Cancer is that it is usually a slow growing cancer, so even if this lymph node is cancerous, you will be fine. I wish you good luck!

I'm sorry youre dealing w/ this. Yes. I have an enlarged lymph node on the left side of my neck. Is about the size of a regular grape & I've had it now for over 2 years. My primary care got an ultrasound and that was it. With long COVID my weight dropped about 20 # and now it's really easy to see. Strangers ask me what's wrong w/ your neck.

LC for 1.5 years - left side of my neck has been swollen for entire time - seems to be going down a little now. Have had lots of tests to rule out cancer etc.

Yes, but my doc doesn’t seem to worry about them.

I just came across your post here.

For the past four years. I have been dealing with a large lump on each side of my neck. They just popped up one day. I had been doing arm curls with small weights and thought that I had ruptured something when I looked in the mirror. It scared me to death.

After 1 million tests and 1 million doctor visits and 1 million dollars and 1 million hours and 1 million tears and 1 million sleepless nights, here I am still dealing with this and with absolutely zero answers.

I am suffering from long Covid and I have intense symptoms, such as extremely high Epstein-Barr numbers for the past four years. Imagine having mono for four years. I had mono as a juvenile but LC brought it back somehow and it won’t leave.

The lumps in my neck have been x-rayed, ultrasound, CT scan… The doctors put little metal beads all around the lumps so they could definitely find them on the x-rays, but still they say there is nothing there even though they can see the lumps.

They assured me this is not my thyroid or any type of lymph node.

They get extremely hard and have fever in them at night making it horrible trying to sleep. I wake up with my neck soaked.

They haven’t grown any larger in four years. They just showed up one day and they exist now and they never change. When my inflammation is at its lowest… which is rare, sometimes they will deflate a tiny bit and not be quite as dense. However, they are always there. And if inflammation is triggered, they are hard and hot and horribly uncomfortable.

I have always had a clavicle that you could serve dip out of. It’s kind of been a running joke all of my life. All of a sudden, overnight these lumps balloon and you can’t even see the clavicle bone any longer.

I had Covid toes at one point as well. I had the most horrible rashes anll over my body for weeks and my left side of my body went numb and basically paralyzed for several weeks.

All of this started about 72 hours after my third Covid vaccine shot. The first two were very simple and painless with no after effects. The third one took me to my knees immediately when it was given to me, and it felt like someone had shot my arm with a gun. I yelled in pain. My doctor said he thinks that the nurse “hit a nerve” and flooded it with the vaccine.

As I lay here typing this… I can barely raise my arm over my head because the right lump is so swollen at the moment.

I have no answers, I am depleted of hope, I just assume THIS IS WHAT I WILL DIE OF.

My most recent bloodwork, (which was today), shows high inflammation markers as usual, “Abnormally” high. Also, I’m getting bad numbers for my kidney functions. This has been going on for a while and my doctors can’t explain it.

I’m adding my experiences here on this thread just in case anyone else is having these type of problems and maybe I might get some more information on my end from it.

Good health and happiness to everyone that reads this….

For the record, I am a Native American / Caucasian male, currently 52 years old. I was 48 when this started, I was in decent health. I was given Pfizer shot all 3 times. Although I am and was a bit overweight to begin with, I have not gained any weight since this started.

I have “PEM” (post exertion malaise) after I do any type of exercise or work out. My fatigue is off the charts sometimes I can’t even raise my arms to shampoo my head, the anxiety and mental part of it all has been equally exhausting. I feel like I have aged 20 years in the past four. I don’t have good coordination any longer, sometimes I stagger or drop things that should have been easily held onto.

I cannot be in the sunlight for more than a few seconds without my skin feeling like it’s catching on fire. It feels like thousands of needles going in all at once.

I had to close my business of 25 years because I was too exhausted to do it any longer. I now work for someone else… When I physically and mentally can.

There are so many more symptoms that I’m not listing here but you see where I’m going with this.

Good day to all.
Peace and happiness. 🙂

@lindy1965 - I realize this is an old thread, but I wanted to chime in as this is the first time I'm reading someone sharing my exact symptoms/issue. But first off, if you happen to see this, was your issue resolved? I feel for you, truly!!
My story: I had Covid in January 2021. I was in a living situation with LOTS of people at the time, so Covid was coming and going through our house quite a lot. So I didn't think much of my still swollen lymph nodes over the following weeks and months. I also had other lingering post-Covid symptoms, so I chalked it up as "it's all tied together". However, after a year (early 2022) I caught a cold and went to urgent care. It was then the left side of my neck not only had its usual swollen lymph node, but it felt tight/hard, tender to the touch and (even though I thought I may be imagining it) seemed larger than before. The urgent care physician was startled by the size of it too. She recommended allergy medicine and rest. I hadn't even thought of allergy medicine before, so I added that to my daily routine. I then brought it up with my primary doctor, but didn't really advocate for myself; kept thinking it was long Covid and it would resolve on its own. She said if the condition worsens to let her know.
I moved in 2023 and the swollen lymph node moved right along with me; growing in size and sometimes painful. Insurance issues kept me from seeing a new primary until January 2024. But once everything was good to go I was ready to (hopefully) get some answers. I was lined up with a fantastic PA through my new primary. After a couple rounds of blood work, x-ray, MRI and CT scan she referred me for an open biopsy. It (thankfully!) came back benign. I was then referred to a general surgeon, but she advised me not to attempt to have it removed due to its location in my neck. Had it been malignant, that would have been another story, but not worth the risk being that its benign. She noted that it appears to be "reactive" and to pay attention to what may "trigger" it. I explained that it's persistently swollen. Yes, it will vary in size depending on my overall health, but it's ALWAYS swollen. I left very discouraged.
I continued my usual care with the PA at my primary's office. The lymph node is still swollen as ever and she is still concerned. At my most recent visit she put in a request for a new biopsy. I'll keep trudging along in hopes to get some more definitive news. But it seems this little swollen lymph node may be here to stay.

I don’t want to scare you, but it could be Thyroid Cancer. My daughter had several nodules inside her neck and on her Thyroid and had a total Thyroidectomy 2 years ago. She is cancer free and doing well, but will be on thyroid medication the rest of her life. Have them biopsies and see an experienced doctor and surgeon if necessary. I wish you well!

I’m also bothered by large nodes in my neck; and the only answer I get is that they’re fine.

I understand. My husband is a retired surgeon and I have to believe him but it’s tough. Hugs back. 🤓
