What have you created lately?

Posted by alive @alive, May 30, 2025

I love working on creative projects! Over the years I have done gourd art, calligraphy, cross stitching, made purses and bags from recycled jeans and have created locker hooking tapestries.

This week I have been attending virtual arts and crafts workshops and have learned so much! Since I am working on a lot of projects made from recycled clothes, I especially enjoyed a workshop on making a landscape picture out of fabric. Here’s the piece I have just finished. It’s only 5x7, but it was a lot of fun making it.

I hope others will share their latest projects!

I retired a few months ago and started studying songwriting. I've been writing pop songs, which are fairly easy structurally. Once I have that mastered I am going to try something more difficult.

Just a quick share...

A couple weeks ago, on my YouTube channel I posted an old video (from 2019) of me taking my first unaided steps after having a stroke. It's only about 30 seconds.

Well, I don't know what happened, but over the next two days, I got about 2,500 hits. That may not sound like much, but my typical episodes only get about 50 - 100...in a year.

Weird, but it has encouraged me to keep looking for creative ways to share my "recovery to discovery" journey.

I hope so.
I think far too many people feel some shame over something that isn't their fault.
It's like my latest episode about seeking professional counseling -- nobody seems interested.
Can't win 'em all, I suppose.

A few years ago I fell and shattered my humerus. I understand what you say about being hyper vigilant. It was terrifying for me to walk outside for fear of falling. I saw your other video about self talk. I did exactly that. I changed my narrative. I also started slow, like just walking down my front walk and every day I went a little further until I made it down the block. The more I changed what I was saying to myself, the more I gained confidence. So I guess whatever trauma someone has had, we are not powerless and we can have some control.

I think your videos will be on YouTube for a long time and you never know who will come across it someday. Just putting it out there can sometimes be enough.

Continue good health to you.

PS, there should be no shame.

I make soft sculpture felt Christmas ornaments and am making a Noah’s Ark set of pairs of animals. Usually make my own patterns after looking at a picture of the item.

Wow! They are beautiful! Do you have a tree just for your ornaments? I also like the animals you made. What a talent!
