I’m 77 going 78 I’ve been on ADT for eight years. It’s really something that most people can manage. For me, it’s not a big deal, It has kept me alive in the last eight years.
When they want to do radiation, they want to try to limit how much radiation they give, If they can get you on ADT, ahead of the radiation, it can shrink the tumors and stop them from growing. They probably won’t want you on it more than six months because of your age.
You could tell your doctor that you want to go on the estradiol patch, Instead of ADT. According to the latest study in England, it’s just as effective as ADT, but has many fewer side effects.
Not sure if you saw this video, it discusses over treatment of people in their 80s
Thanks Jeff for the video, it was encouraging for sure
The Dr said my situation was borderline: intermediate risk/Gleason 7/3+4/6 out of 12 cores: Cancer one 4.3/ on Nerve Bundle PNA present/rest 3+4/ last PSA 6.6/Level 2.0+
I also have 3 stents and on blood thinners/heart issues which run in my genes, both parents died in their 60s from heart attacks.
My urologist said radio right away this was before I went to MD Anderson Proton Center for a second opinion and they said maybe Radiation? Later/ Maybe Active Surveillance or ADT lite? That is why Dr Choi set up the AI test to see if ATD made sense or not but put in 28 Radio sessions just in case
I know no one lives forever and you can’t predict how you will deal with side effects either
But from what I have read if the cancer spreads that can be very painful too: right now still in the capsule
So everyday flip back and forth, ATD or not. The video seems to say no for people 80 and above.
Ok so thanks again for your feedback it’s helpful to get feedback and to share my feelings: with someone it’s scary stuff since other than night peeing and light headines/ dizzy/ might be my anxiety about cancers makes the cancer reality always on my mind
