What is good daily med that only treats anxiety and depression?

I see a psychiatrist but she prescribed heavy meds for psychotic and other things. I feel these are too strong for me.

Hello to all

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and had a happy valentine 💘 day… I awoke with the continuing nagging anxiety which I reported to my cardiologist this past Monday on my 6 month follow up…she listened and talked with me at length….and I am so fortunate to have her as a doctor in many capacities… my wife is scheduled for oral surgery on the 14th of March for extractions and temporary dentures until her gums heal and then she will get the premium permanent dentures.. they are going the route of oral sedation using a couple of drugs… I know she is unnerved by the whole thought and process of it and having gone through it myself many years ago I feel her anxiety… but I assure her that this dentist and his team do this all the time and that she will feel better and be able to chew food properly afterwards…fortunately for both of us we have a yearly exam with our primary doctor the week before on March 7th.. she can address any issues about the oral surgery and the option of the oral sedation with him as well as her BP issues.. I also made a cardiology appointment for her with my cardiologist in April….and with my doctor on the same date that my wife sees him, I will once again address this long standing problem of morning anxiety and general anxiety which is causing me some concentration issues…maybe he can figure something out…please excuse the rambling but this is a post via Mayo Connect that relieves
some anxious feelings.. and I love to keep in touch with all of the mentors and people who come here… have a safe and healthy week..

Hello to all
Tomorrow my wife and I go for her oral surgery involving the extraction of her remaining teeth and replaced with full temporary dentures…the dental people got the ok just today from our primary care physician .. I am grateful for their ok for the oral sedation via Triazalon and Valium…I am uneasy but feel assured she will be in experienced hands…I pray for her to make it through and for the dentures to work out good.. it will take getting used too…I will probably need a klonopin before or during the waiting…. I hope all who come here have a safe and healthy weekend coming up..🙏 pvctom

I have been on 1. Venlafaxine HCL ER 75 for anxiety, and depression. I started on a lower dose from my MD.
Now I go to a psychiatrist and am on Wellbutrin generic, now I have energy but not hyperactive.
I am obese so I don’t want anything that makes me more hungry! Best wishes!

I have rh arthritis. I started to walk again,very slowly. Just to the mailbox. Added a little more everyday . I started to feel better. Then I started to have pain in the back of my leg up and down my calf. So had to quit. I have a doctors appointment next week but I’m not hopeful because of my history as to what he will say. I am 70 years old. Exercise seems the hardest thing got my to get. Anyone have suggestions, please let me hear them. Thanks

Re exercise, start slow, if even just a few minutes a day, and add a few more minutes to your daily routine every week until you get to 30 - 40 minutes a day. Back off if you're having aches or pains. You don't need machines, weights, etc - just walking, stretching, leg lifts, etc (search exercising without equipment) and build on it.

I am glad you are happy with Wellbutrin. One of the side effects can be weight loss. That along with exercise and a healthy diet and who knows where that takes you.

You are your very own best advocate about your health and medications you may take or not take. Do not let any doctor keep you on medication that you’re not comfortable taking. If the doctor isn’t listening to you and what you say, please please find a different doctor. There are so many out there and I know the hassle first hand with how much stressful this is. Praying you are able to get the help and medication right for yourself. 🤗

IMHO no NP should be prescribing psychiatric meds. Period. I am a nurse and I have a sister in law who got her PNP in less than a year. It take at least 10 years to become competent as a psychiatrist let alone a nurse being one.

A PNP may be ok for alcohol and drug abuse facilities, but not for people without drug and alcohol addictions.

If your Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) is prescribing, I would question her/him as to what psychiatrist's license they practice under. Tell the PNP you want to be seen by that physician psychiatrist no less than twice a year.

Becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner can be done online! I am not trusting my health to an online or any other Nurse Practitioner. They also tend to come and go, but you NEED a STABLE psychiatrist who has a vested interest in their practice; not an unstable lower staffed PNP; they simply provide PNPs to hold down budgets!

A nurse practitioner may be fine for managing physical illnesses - to a point - because there is a shortage of all doctors, as in pediatrics, term, internal medicine. PNPs may be OK in some instances in supervising psych ward STAFF nurses but PNPs are no more a qualified to independently diagnose and treat psych conditions than they are to perform neurosurgery.

Many of the NPs I've seen over the past 40 years have been as good if not better than the psychiatrists. Of course, a few were incompetent, but some of the psychiatrists could neither diagnose nor prescribe meds well enough to have made me question what they learned in medical school, besides how to invest their earnings, which are slowly diminishing.

As one well in my 82nd year, I do have some joint and foot pains but not serious enough to be unable to walk steps with groceries in and out of subways, buses, and walk up to a mile, even tho my first problem in right foot sole and left knee first appeared some 20 yrs ago. I read up all Arthritis magazines and found movement -- stretch and strengthen -- is the way to deal with it -- as probably it does good to so many other health issues, including mental health.

While occasionally I get some tightness feel in a leg, it disappears after stretching in All 3 Possible Directions in space: Sitting or standing. Foot: In and out, up and down, inwards and outwards. The idea is to feel the stretch in the leg, usually midcalf.
Similarly for upper legs, I move each of the legs while standing on the other, supporting if u need, with hands on a chair or wall.

I also believe we can only have optimal fitness which would be different for each person, EVEN in different Ages or Condition of one's body. Our bodies are our allies and will tell us when it's too little exertion or too much.
