Does anyone take Pancrease and how do you do with it? Is it a life long enzyme therapy

My sister recently diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. She also has diabetes, she is finding it very difficult to know what low fat foods to eat, or how to eat at restaurants and find appropriate food. Also, her doctor told her no more than 10 grams of fat per day! That is very hard to do! Does anyone have low fat diet help? or if staying at below 10 grams of fat per day is reasonable or unreasonable? Her name is Judy, she is 74 years old and wears a urine ostomy bag because her bladder was removed last year due to bladder cancer. Also, now she has a stage 1 cancer polyp in her stomach which will be removed on 7/23/2025. I am her sister Mary trying to help her. Thank you, Mary Rhodes

I don't know. I stopped Omeprazole a month ago. I am having another MRI in 2 days. Had one 2 months ago. It showed mild pancreatitis, but my amylase was always normal and my lipase was elevated. How did you get in to Mayo Clinic. I really want to go there for a 2nd opinion. I have been dealing with this for 4 months. I live in Fl. so I would go to Jacksonville.

I'm not American so just made the appointment at the Mayo and paid for it. So I'm assuming you are American and it's the insurance company that is the issue? Fascinating how the health care systems around the world are so different. They saw me within a week or two so it was quick for me as I had flights, hotels and a car to arrange.

Long ago I had a friend who had 2 children with Celiac Disease. Both boys took Digestive enzymes with every meal to help them digest their food. I don't know if they took Pancrease.
I guess this would be a lifetime even for these boys, but they moved away and I am not in touch anymore. I know they were bright, active children even though they had to have chest percussion and other respiratory treatments every day too.
I am sorry your sister has so many troubles to work with and wish her well with her upcoming surgery in 3 days. Perhaps you and she could meet with a nutrionist while she is in hospital?

Sounds more like the kids had cystic fibrosis… not celiac

I have shortgut syndrome & take Creon 3 times a day to help my pancrease. It does help, but very expensive. I applied to Abbvie for help & now they ship it free.

I take Creon 3x/day, every day, as I have shortgut syndrome. My entire large colon is gone. Have to empty ileodtomy at least once an hour.
Creon helps.

I take Enzymedica Digest Gold three times a day and feel it helps me

Thank you

I received a reply recently and can't find the sender, but wanted to thank that person and share this.
I was told by this person and also another reflux sufferer (I also have EPI and other gut issues), that taking hydrochloric acid during a meal is effective along with the creon I have to take at the beginning of every meal or snack. This is in fact, the active ingredient in "pepsid" but without all the additives, which for most of us are irritating to the gut and for all of us, unnecessary.
I take it once a day during my largest meal and have noticed a big difference with digestion and although my reflux is "silent" I am certain it is helpful.
