Septal Myectomy Consideration

It's been a while since I've posted and thought I'd post an update. I ended up having my second opinion appointment through Kaiser this past week. This was with a cardiologist that used to work at Stanford (a COE) and HCMA/Stanford guided me toward seeing him within the Kaiser system.

I had a very positive appointment, felt listened to, and had a strong sense of knowledge from the cardiologist I met with. Since it was our first appointment he walked through everything from top to bottom about the disease, different states of it, and all the medical options/paths we can take.

We changed my medication off of Metoprolol to Verapamil and are working through what I can tolerate there. The hardest part is that for the last 6 months, I've felt like my exercise capacity has decreased. But I also had sinus surgery in that time and a covid infection.

Once I'm on a stable dose of Verapamil (watching my bp and heart rate closely), then we'll redo a stress echo and see how things are from there.

He advised that there are a number of things we can do/try before myectomy. He said that Camzyos isn't an option in his mind based on what he sees with me and his opinion would likely be myectomy in the future if the other medication paths we take don't help and if the symptoms get worse, given that it's still the "gold standard" for relief of symptoms.

He did order a cardiac MRI based on my request.

I feel positive that I have other avenues to try, give it some time, see what happens with clinical trials and make some decisions over the course of the next few years--as long as nothing changes with the disease state.
