Sibo treatment Rifaxamin and Neomycin
I have been diagnosed with SIBO and am being advised to take Rifaxamin 3x a day and Neomycin 2x a day for 14 days. I have many concerns about the Neomycin due to the ototoxicity. I have a bit of tinnitus already the think that may make me more vulnerable to a possible problem. The idea of taking something that might hurt my hearing even more is concerning. Any thoughts about the Neomycin in this context? I would like to hear about the research and if genetics can be determined to see if this would be safe for me to take.
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a Dr. at Mayo/ Scottsdale who treats SIBO? I would like to coordinate care with my other doctors at Mayo as I think this is going to be essential to getting a handle on this.
Much gratitude in advance for this supportive community.
Take care,
Jaki

Thank you very much, I will check it out.
Then take Flagyl instead of Neomycin.
Hi, @lsdd13 - just wondering if you could provide more information on why you'd suggest metronidazole (Flagyl) instead of neomycin? Did metronidazole work best for you or someone you know?
Hi
I was told the standard antibiotic treatment is the rifaximin with either Neomycin or Flagyl. I react very badly to Flagyl so I did Neomycin. I’ve had 3 courses of treatment on this and NO change to my condition. I did not have any side effects.
I’m not suggesting it at all. If you’re afraid to take neomycin then Flagyl is your alternative
Similar result occured when I took neomycin. Check-in with naturopaths and herbalists or TCMs. Several potential remedies treat tinnitus, but since you don't know about them - do not assume that you can experiment successfully. Consult a professional. Don't assume that a magic bullet exists. You will need a protocol. Here are a few likely candidates: zinc, nac, vitd, vita, pea, melatonin, cordycepts, korean red ginseng, co-q10, b12, magnesium, magnolia and gaba related supps.
I appreciate all of your advice, which many people with tinnitus could use. In my case, and for many others, I live on disability and a tiny bit of social security. Extremely low income. Sadly, I cannot see any service you have mentioned that is covered by Medicare/Medicaid. Please let me know if I am wrong. Thanks though.
