Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

I was a good jock, basketball and football. But a lifeguard pulled me out of the pool when I was 17…there are two sides to every story! LOL
PS - I still sink like a rock.

I was I guess what you might call a refusenik jock. My older brother was the true athlete, excelling at everything that required throwing, hitting, or kicking a ball. As a result, I refused––all team sports. In my teens, I gravitated toward running; running I could do on my own.

Ah, swimming! You mention swimming. Like you, I sink like a rock.

And speaking of water (I guess we're speaking of water), ocean cruises can be fun; but at the same time, I make a point of never leaning too far over the rail. I know me. I know how quickly I'll find the bottom.

Have a great day, captboat!

We just finished what we called our last cruise. It was French Poloynsia and Hawaii it was assume! And I do stay away from the rails.

Just returning the eighth pair of shoes that do not fit. The podiatrist suggested one brand--the PT suggested another. Neuropathy caused by chemo and radiation--twice--. Most comfortable solution is to go barefoot, but that is not feasible when out in public.
Any other suggestions? Has anyone tried the "barefoot" shoes?

I just so happen to have 8 pairs of barefoot shoes. I love them all. Some thin, some thick , some with laces, some without plus a pair of boots. All different colors but all fit comfortably. They help to strengthen my feet, ankles & calves plus they help with balance. They also help with driving since the soles are thin making them better to feel the pedals & move freely between the gas & the break unlike Hokas which often makes it difficult to lift your foot high enough not to miss the brake pedal. Bottom line my Barefoot Shoes are game changers for me & I can’t imagine any shoes that offer better all around features for neuropathy sufferers.

Any shoes (sport or dress) that would be of benefit for my husband who has neuropathy in his feet resulting from several spinal surgeries. He has been to THE GOOD FEET store but the insoles they recommended had no effect. thanks

Hello, all

I've been following these posts for a long, long time. Presently, I'm wearing Sketches. They're reasonably comfortable, but on days when my PN-induced poor balance is especially poor (like today), the Sketchers don't seem to be a great help. On arriving home, I can't wait to get them off and go about the house in my non-slip socks. In these posts, lately it has seemed there has been increased discusion of barefoot shoes. I've always been tempted, but never sprung for a pair, chiefly because I've a need to use my orthotics or, if I don't, I have to endure a chorus of joint pain (ankles, knees, hips), I'm sure it's been asked before (so, if you'll forgive me for asking it again), but have any of you who are long-time orthotics wearers ever found a pair of barefoot shoes that accommodate your orthotics and provide you with reasonable comfort and, as a bonus, help with your PN-induced balance?

I'm a mixed bag myself Ray. I have several pairs of Xero barefoot shoes and four pairs of Orthofeet which are a little less cushy than the Sketchers I used to buy. I did break down today and ordered a pair of hands free Sketchers that didn't look to have the max cushion that a lot of them do. I definitely like the barefoot shoes the best walking around the house and the yard but if I have to walk any distance like going to a doctor's appointment at Rochester Mayo instead of my local Mayo Family Clinic I opt to wear my Orthofeet with better cushion for walking. I've got the senior shuffle down pat so not worried about my balance but I am more careful.
