Thanks @anncgrl. Hope you find something that helps and is available through medicare/medicaid. I'm blessed to still have a younger sister, just wished I could convince her to stop smoking which is what caused both my other sister and our Dad's death. Tried for 30 years on my sister that passed away of lung cancer. The reason she fell out of the hospital bed in her home was that she woke up and wanted to go outside for a smoke. I'm not giving up hope for my youngest sister and she is in her mid 60s.
God Bless,
John
I gotta tell you, that smoking thing is a tough one. The gal friday at my psychologist's office quit smoking about two weeks ago. Her husband had a heartache, barely survived the surgery, and had 90% blockage. The doctor told my friend on no uncertain terms that the heart attack was directly related to her husband's cigarette smoking. It scared my friend into quitting on the spot. She said her children had asked him to stop smoking for years.
I have not smoked in a long time. I also gave up drinking, drugging and general scalawag behavior. 🙂 I had to do it when I hit bottom and it has not been easy. Certainly I did not do it for anyone else. Sad but true!
Well, the visit from the social worker worked wonders. We had a huge bunch of pull-overs delivered yesterday and the guy with the unit for emergency situations is coming out in an hour or so. He had been dragging his feet and we did not even know we could get the pull-overs for free. YAY! Now I am going to call the company that brought out the bed and se what we can get rolling in that direction. It truly is the small victories that count!
I went to the senior center today to do thirty minutes on a machine that incorporates legs and arms. I need the exercise and I need the interaction with other people. We are fortunate to have a great center with many options for things to do.
I hope you are having a terrific day!
@anncgrl, my mom has been bedridden for about 13 months now and we use one of the air mattresses on her hospital bed. It does make it difficult to tuck in sheets (which she likes to play with), but she hasn't had one bed sore because the air is constantly moving in the air mattress. We were able to get the bed and mattress "free" when she was on hospice. When she went off, we purchased both pieces at a good discounted price. I highly recommend an air mattress!
Thank you, John. The social worker was out today and we discussed the bed. I am going to call the people that brought it to us and find out what is available through medicare/medicaid. We will definitely do something other than what we are doing at the moment. Thanks so much for the link. I understand much better what you are saying now and can see how a mattress like that would be infinitely more comfortable.
I am sorry about your sister. It seems you have faced so much loss. I pray God will pour out multiple tender mercies on you and give you respite from loss. You are a blessing.
