Concerned Mom. My son is 28 he had his gallbladder removed last year. We thought that was the issue. He was good for 2 weeks. We have been to countless ER’s, Egd, colonoscopy.
Last year he was hospitalized for pancreatitis. No history of drugs or alcohol. Pain is right upper rib cage and radiates to the back of his shoulder blades. This is now been going on for weeks of and on. The one ER said he had gastritis wouldn’t do a CT scan just did x-ray and ultrasound and said no stones from previous gallbladder. He’s nauseous, never vomits, pain is severe and he just keeps working because he has a demanding job. Gastro doctor ordered stool sample sent it back 2 days ago. Also trying to get him scheduled for an MRCP test.
At what point do you just pull your hair out and scream at someone and say “please help my son”. I am a prior healthcare provider and just don’t wanna see my one son suffering. He’s so frustrated that he said I’m not going to the ER they just discount me and send me back home.
I’m concerned they are missing something serious with him. He can’t lay flat, he has bought me of bloating, diahrea, pain never goes away. Anti nausea and pain meds don’t help.
Sorry for the long message. I may not even be in the right group but someone here may be able to help. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this

Sorry to hear the news. My son who was same age as your son, had gastrointestinal issues where test results were only borderline abnormal. Countless visits to drs and countless testing and nothing definitive ever came up. He was an auditor at a very busy accounting firm - working days and then getting work once he got home that he had to do. More testing is needed for your son, ct or mri? Is he on any digestive enzymes following his surgery?

Hello @patriotestate1 and welcome to Mayo Connect. I can certainly understand your son's frustration with the post-surgery symptoms he has been having. It can be difficult to return to a normal lifestyle with all of these problems.

As you asked if you were posting in the right group, I would suggest that you post in the Digestive Health support group. Here will find many discussions about post-gallbladder surgery problems. Here is a link to a few of them.

You mentioned that you are a prior health care provider, so you undoubtedly understand that after the gallbladder has been removed, certain changes to diet need to be made. Has your son adjusted his eating habits since his surgery?

Finally, a second opinion might be in order. Ideally, this second opinion is best obtained from a multi-disciplinary health care system like Mayo Clinic (http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63) or a university health care system.

I hope that you son finds some answers and relief for his issues. Will you continue to post and let me know how he is doing?

Go to a different ER. Emphasize pain. Don't be brave. They must find source of pain. This is serious.
