Glioblastoma stage 4 -my story so far

Posted by petesfam @petesfam, Jun 28, 2025

Glioblastoma stage 4 diagnosed 6 weeks ago: I'm 65 and had a headache. MRI showed brain tumor on left side. Next day I was helicopter driven to big hospital-brain bleed. Operated and now at Mayo Clinic for radiation and chemotherapy for 6 weeks. Half way with that.
Feel good. Happy I made it through the brain bleed. Amen for staying alive after that.
Just wondering if someone has made it over a year with a similar G cancer treatment strategy such as radiation and chemotherapy? Did chemotherapy continue later? How about those Optune(?) hats? Thank you.

You can reach 85 years or more!! 🙏 need lots PPF (PATIENCE PRESEVERANCE and FAITH).. You may want to read the book of a stage IV glioblastoma patient, who survived more than 20 years : "They call me a miracle" by Randy R. Harris with Carmen Rice", available in Amazon
Also ask your Dr. about megadosis of intravenous vitamine C. It helped my sister along with chemo. She had no nausea nor sickness and 5 years after. No new growth!!
BEST WISHES & BLESSINGS 🙏 💕

Frst happy 4th. Just finished reading the Bible till this evening. Completely caught me by surprise with your comments, they are appreciated. Can't guarantee I'll get to them. These last seizures kinda frazzled me pretty good. Im just this week been approved to start small exercises and carry on. Thank you for your support and positive attitude and strength
Have a great rest of your day.

My wife has a stage 4 glioblastoma and really the only positive on genetic testing was that hers is GMGT methylated. That made her a good candidate for Temezolamide. She recently finished a six week course of the temezolamide along with 30 radiation treatments. She has been hospitalized twice; once for brain swelling that required some high dose steroids and she developed a blood clot in her lung just as she finished treatment. She is unable to walk unassisted and cannot speak more than a few words. Her symptoms don’t seem much better. Fortunately she has no pain. In three weeks she starts back on a higher dose of the chemotherapy medication for 5 days every 4 weeks. That will go for six months. Trying to stay optimistic but not seeing much improvement so far is discouraging.

Discouraged shows regardless of the facial effects. Stay positive and pass on your best foot forward, be the leaning post with enthusiastic shows of compassion. The brain has unbelievable recovery sections, pray 🙏 rest is a part of that too. You've got this just let it know you do. Best thoughts your direction.

Sending positive thoughts your way. What were her symptoms from brain swelling that you knew to taker her to the hospital? My son is grade 4 brain tumors also with methylated cells. He just finished 30 radiation treatments and will be starting temezolamide

My husband was diagnosed with GBM in 2022. He was not a good candidate for TMZ. He only did about seven radiation treatments. The treatments just made him worse and his bloodwork wouldn’t allow for anymore. Some do get benefits from radiation treatment from what I have read. But it made my husband bedridden for his last six weeks. I wish you the best.

Wish there was a proper answer for tumors, doesn't matter what kind, just so those who have one or had one and were able to survive could pass along encouraging words and things that helped them to get through the hard parts.

Hello,

I'm going through the same treatment, I'm down to the last 5 days as of yesterday. Not sure what will happen after last treatment. I know the doctor will request another MRI to compare with prior tests and I have some blood work to do at the end of the month as well. I've been researching other treatment options too. Time will tell...

The brain swelling incident was about a week after her brain biopsy. Her tumor was too large to resect. She began to have repetitive vomiting, unable to hold down fluids and she became confused and then couldn’t speak. I loaded her up and went back to the hospital and she got admitted to the neuro-ICU.

That’s awesome. 5 more treatments and you can take a deep breath and a little break. The radiation was rough for my wife but she made it to the end. That was two weeks and she seems to be feeling better. Her tumor disrupted her speech so it’s hard to communicate but she looks brighter and more alert. Also her fatigue seems better.

Our doctor told us that the more active my husband is, the better it is for his healing, so he pushes through no matter how awful he feels. The 30 radiation treatments are energy draining, especially combined with the low-dose Temodar, but you can ring that bell and take that mask home and relax for a few weeks.

Have you considered the Optune Gio course of therapy?
