Ischemic stroke, now mobility more limited, looking for encouragement

Posted by grrranny @grrranny, May 21 3:52pm

I lost strength in my arms and legs and could not get Off the floor, so we called911 And was taken to the ER. After two days went to Acute rehab where I have now been for two days. Anybody else have this? Left side, especially arm and hand are paralyzed I’m 82 and looking for encouragement. Thanks!

Had an ischemic stroke last May that affected my right side. Having bouts of crying at the drop of a hat and still trying to gain strength in my hand. Is anybody going thru the same thing? Also needing encouragement. I'm only 57 and it's been tough opening up to anyone even though my event, thank God, was mild. It still was traumatic to me!

I had a TIA on May 27 and June 14, 2025. I was told the attacks were serious and that I had to see a doctor immediately for an MI and Neurology. I called for an appointment but the earliest doctor's appointment for an MRI is on July 14. The appointment for Neurology is still not definite.
Any advice is welcome.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma. God bless you for enduring this long! Were you referred by your physician and your still waiting for appointments? See if you can be referred elsewhere for an earlier appointment or make sure you're on a waiting list! Best wishes to you.

I'd call them back and tell them what you were told you need.

Hi, I had a TIA stroke almost 3 weeks ago…i experienced flashing lights on my left side and arm numbedness on my right side. Ended up in the hospital, had a CT and 2 MRIs done and diagnosed as such. Released after 2 day stay. Prescribed aspirin and a statin(refuse to take because of side effects). My diet and exercise was always on tap. I work out everyday, i eat healthy (Blue Zone way of eating)…but i had the stroke. My question, what are you doing to cause the blocked artery to open so blood can flow thru?

Not to be funny…but, you must live in Delaware. That’s how long or longer it takes to get a doctor appointment.

Lisinopril, baby aspirin, metoprolol tartrate, and Atorvastatin to help prevent another stroke.

Ohio. Takes a month to see family doc, 2 or more for specialists and MRIs. But a second call to my doc’s office got me in when I stressed the urgency of hospital follow-up so I could get my meds after stroke. Sometimes another person can do it, when the previous person could not. Keep trying, would be my advice. Don’t give up.

When I had a stroke, I had almost no symptoms
Like you , very healthy, don’t smoke, not over weight
My dr did bloodwork and learned I had Polycythemia
Vera ( had never heard of it)
which is a blood cancer that causes clotting. It develops over the course of a lifetime
I am on a blood thinner and
Hydroxyurea to prevent
any more clots/stroke
My mri at the hospital showed that I had been having TIA’s for some time
I got lucky I was diagnosed

Hi Irish, thank God it was caught and treated. It appears strokes are a normal way of life.
