I'm a senior living alone: How do I find help?

Posted by mogal1951 @mogal1951, Jul 18, 2018

I am a senior woman that lives alone. I fear getting more severely depressed and needing help in my home with meds and food. NO...I do not have ANYONE...been way too depressed for way too long for opportunity to meet people. Does anyone know an organization I can contact that can find help for me? ANY suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

I do not have personal experience but I have heard from my DBSA group that Easter Seals can be very helpful.

Also, your insurance company should have a nurse coach to call at any time. How about a local church? Meals on Wheels? Your primary doctor could suggest places that offer up help. Also, God is there for you to reach out to.

Where I live, they eliminated Meals on Wheels! Many of us elderly have not received Meals on Wheels since February.

I think you still can get meals at your local senior centers but you have to go there yourself. I know that’s what we do here in our county. Several of our churches have volunteers to drive you or pick up your meals, if you’re not able to go yourself.
A lot changed with Covid. People stopped volunteering or organizations had to close their doors. I don’t know what’s going to happen now that billions of dollars have been cut from our social service budgets.

What hospital system do you use? I know Providence has a local Eldercare here in my county. Or, as someone mentioned “above”, talk to a social worker at your health care system. All hospital systems have them (except maybe the private ones).

Thank you for your kind response. I have called a church in the area, and discussed the need for delivered meals, for the elderly, in our community!

I live in the USA, where many elderly are neglected, and the Government is taking away meals-on-wheels.

Volunteered dropping them off for a bit over 3 years
USA is a bit vague
