Has anyone tried acupuncture for neuropathy?

Posted by Nancy Banks @banksnc49, Jun 27, 2018

I was just wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for neuropathy. The balls of my feet and toes on both feet are affected. It’s no longer covered on my insurance plan so I have to pay out of pocket for the treatments. I was told I would need about 9 or 10. It would cost me about $1000. I’d like to hear if anyone has had success with this type of treatment. Thanks, Nancy Banks.

My husband has non-diabetic peripheral neuropathy. He has tried many things, but we’re wondering now about Acupuncture has anyone tried it and with what success? His legs are not in pain. They are uncomfortable and twitchy as he tries to go to sleep at night and continues during the daytime.

I tried it for months, too. My heat sensations went away while I was being treated, but returned shortly after I left the office:(.

It’s a relaxing treatment but relatively ineffective. I’ve had it dozens of times with no real benefit. A waste of money too.

My doctor said that at best it's only temporary, and insurance won't cover the expenses.

I find myself normally against acupuncture. However blanket claims about it seem a bit problematic. There are no requirements for claiming to be an acupuncturist. So many people claim the title but have not been properly trained. A well trained acupuncturist will train under an established institution not associated with chiropracters. Proper training takes years under the eye of a well established training institution. Be careful who you select and who claims to conduct acupuncture. BTW are all doctors the same? Should we claim that all physicians are the same?

I tried it 4 times. It made me feel temporarily relaxed but wasn’t enough relief to continue treatments.

I have been getting acupuncture for about a year and it is the only thing that has helped me. I have tried every medication and had a spinal steroid shot and either the pills did nothing or gave me bad side effects and the shot did nothing as well. I am lucky to have found a wonderful acupuncturist provider who believes that nerves can heal. I go every other week and my insurance pays a portion.

I have used acupuncture and find limited temporary relief only.

I've had ONE acupuncturist really help me. In 2 treatments he made my hyperhidrosis completely go away for 2 months, but I've never found anyone else who was as skilled. He believed the deep muscles around my bones were pinching my nerves so he put needles in my thigh to my bone (like 2" deep) and I felt electrical signals when he did this, but then my muscles relaxed and I felt significant improvement..

I receive acupuncture every month ( for many years) and my feet always feel better.

I also receive reflexology every other week which helps restore sensation in my feet.

Many years ago a PT recommended I order RHP Extra Strength Nerve Support Formula and I’ve been taking that daily since it relieves the pain in my feet completely. I highly recommend all three for greatly increased functionality. I also do cardio three or more times a week for 30 minutes in addition to strength training 1-2 times a week. I am 81 years old and working part time as a Craniosacral Therapist, which I also receive monthly. All of this makes a huge positive difference for me.
