Body itching

Posted by Retired teacher @specialteacher, Jul 31, 2018

I’ve had almost unbearable itching for over 3 months. Was prescribed hydroxyzine, but it doesn’t seem to help. It started when I was in the ER having a very frightening allergic reaction. I was given an epinephrine iv, and a breathing treatment. My legs started to shake uncontrollably. Then I couldn’t breathe, was given an injection of something at that point. I’m taking benadryl and paxil but don’t know how much longer I can deal with this.

@specialteacher I am just seeing this, so by now you must have found a solution to your itching.

I was at my dermatologist’s on Wednesday and told him my scalp and body itching was driving me crazy. He has prescribed Gabapentin 100mg. To be taken three times a day, but told me to start with just once a day at bedtime because it causes sleepiness and unsteadiness, then go on to twice a day when that is tolerated well, and finally to three times a day.

I found that one capsule at night helped considerably with my itching and since I had no reactions to the Gabapentin (other than slight nausea), I took one in the morning too. Not much difference, but at least I am not clawing at myself. Maybe the itching will stop after a few days of taking this medication. I am going to stay at two capsules a day for now, and if that doesn’t completely ease off the itching in a week or so, will try three times a day as the dermatologist has suggested. Reason why I am doing just twice a day is because there was improvement already with one dose and Ifntwo doses finally work, why take three!?

A lot of people in my support group use this medication for a sleep aid.

I was prescribed Gabapentin for allergies causing sinus congestion. I had negative skin tests, meaning allergy shots was not the best choice. Apparently, Gabapentin interacts with other immunoglobulins. I’m very happy with it. My dogs have taken it too.

@bowman What treatment are you getting for these infestations? Are the infestations causing you problems?
Can you maybe tell us a little more?
BTW, using all capitals means the you are shouting, and I’m sure you’re not. Can you go back to regular typing?! Thanks!

I am battling demodex mites as well. I've tried getting help in know i see them! I can pull them out! When I ask for help my mother thinks I'm on drugs! My dr acts like she don't care. It's ruining my self esteem and my life! How do I get help? Also can these mites be anywhere on your body? I think they are. I also have a compromised immune system. Can I get rid of them by myself? I've tried tea tree oil. Help!

One more thing I forgot. My symptoms are like having my whole scalp filled with red ants, not always biting all the time, but 75% of the time I'm itching and miserable. Plus, I'm so afraid of giving it to others. I keep myself isolated. This has been going on for over two years.

Here us a picture I took two nights ago after my last bath of the day. Baths or showers take up my days.

My little dog, Millie, is so very patient. She and I know each other very well. She can tell when I'm so very tired of the biting all over me and I'm getting overwhelmed that she will just come to me and either sit and stare at me or if I'm crying she will start barking until I stop. I pray she doesn't get them, too. She has an appointment with her doctor next week. Hope veterinarians are more attuned to parasites than our MDs.

I get sidetracked. Here's the pictures taken two nights ago.

My scalp is the same way start putting tounafate antifungal cream and coconut oil and zimecterin horse paste on it. I mix a big pee size parasite cream with the antifungal mix it well put it all over your head in ears up nose on face. I put it on my entire body. I'm not cured but about 90% better I don't feel stuff crawling on me that much anymore. Also put tab o e salt on your head it will burn but that's cause it's working. The first time I put the antifungal on me all kinds of hard thing stared purging from my skin so I just kept doing doing it. Hand sanitizer with coconut oil like the kind u cook with also kills them. Good luck I hope this helps u I've been dealing with it for three years just now starting to get better.
