Prolia and Hair Loss
Anyone experience hair loss with Prolia? I would also like to hear about those on Prolia with no issues?

Thank you for that. Just one more reason not to use Prolia!
I quit after the 3D shot and am now using Risedronate for about a year now. No side effects! One pill once a week.
My hair is coming back thank goodness!

4 ReactionsSo sorry to hear. Wishing you all the best. My hair started growing back last Oct/Nov after 6 months from my 3rd shot. May have an inch or two starting to come back. It will be a long time before I know if it will ever come back. Currently wearing a wig.
I was changed to Actonel weekly. Hopefully it covers the rebound.
Good Luck!!!

7 ReactionsEvenity is made by the same folks as Prolia.
They said the same about Prolia when I first looked in to it.
About a year later they admitted that hair loss was a side effect.
I have since been using Risedronate once a week. So far so good.

3 ReactionsI would just like to start by saying I’m so glad I’m not alone! Although sorry we are going through this very stressful time. I have had a total of three Prolia shots. I noticed some hair loss after the first shot so I looked up possible side effects, as I didn’t find it listed I just put it down to coincidence. After my second shot, the hair loss was a little more. I was very hesitant to take the third one but the warnings of increased bone fractures are pretty scary so I went ahead and had it. That was on April 18th., for the past two weeks the hair loss has become very noticeable. I know at the age of 80 one expects a certain thinning. I’ve always had very thick hair, but now it so noticeable thin it has made me very self conscious. I am normally a very active woman but I just want to stay hidden at home! There is no way that I will take any more shots of Prolia. I have tried both Fosmax and Actonel but due to SBS was unable to tolerate them. I am at a loss. Has anyone had hair regrowth after discontinuing Prolia? Thank you for reading my woes and wish you all well.

2 ReactionsBefore having read your comment I posted my own tale of woe similar to yours. I’m happy to hear your hair is growing back. I hope the same happens for me.
My ortho is against any OP drugs which I find highly unusual and refreshing at the same time. He says he doesn't recommend any OP meds because he's seen too many atypical fractures on his patients from these drugs. Perhaps atypical fractures aren't as rare as these drug companies make them out to be. He also says the only way to build good bone was through strength training. However all other doctors (including my dentist and my podiatrist) are pushing OP drugs. (And these doctors are all so casual about suggesting OP drugs as if they're saying what's the big deal about taking them!) For now, I'll try to do what I can (exercise, diet, supplements) until I see the results of my next DEXA scan next year. Then I'll reevaluate my situation.

1 ReactionI'm so glad I found this site/link. I've been driving myself crazy trying to figure out why I'm losing so much hair. Dermatologists and primary care physician chalked it up to aging (I'm 65). Nevertheless, the rate at which I'm losing my hair seems abnormal. The only time I've had hair loss like this was a few months after giving birth, and one time after being on a strict diet for 30 days. The hair loss I've noticed in the past few years is similar in that it happens in intervals. I kept looking back to see what "event" might have happened 2 or so months prior to the hair loss. More searching on-line helped me to find people posting about hair loss with Prolia. I've been getting injections every 6 months for about 2 1/2 years. When I think about it, the hair loss seems most noticeable about 2 months or so after receiving the injection, so my hair loss history seems to fit in that it follows about 2 months after an "event" - in this case the Prolia injection. Not sure what to do since I read that it can be very detrimental to stop the injections.
I started losing my hair by the handful after the 3d shot.
I refused to have any more shots.
I had thick hair and lost about 2/3 of it.
That was about 2 years ago. My hair has almost grown back to original thickness.
I am niw taking Risedronate 35 mg. Once a week.
I have not had any adverse reactions.
Yes
Completed 2years=4 shots and finally figured out my extreme hair loss is caused by these treatments. So upsetting! I’m going on fosamax in April instead!
