Have you been told no to hrt if you are 10+ years post menopause?

Starting hrt 10 years post menopause and the flawed Women's health initiative study.
I have been told no and yet the current findings seem to indicate that hrt can still help.

Dr Doug Lucas is a wealth of information. I just finished a podcast on Women and HRT 20 years past menopause or over the age of 60. Certainly gives ground to stand on if your health care provider tells you no.

Congratulations! I'll be curious to hear how it goes for you. Are they using hormone pellets?

I am 10 yrs post menopausal and have been on HRT for about 8 of them. My hormone specialist is very thorough and knowledgeable. I've been feeling great and have recovered from traumatic spinal injury surgery just fine. I was suicidal before starting and have been fine since.

It sounds like they haven't done studies on older postmenopausal women to give conclusive advice. I am 66 too and have only taken progesterone for other issues which has been great. Going for a calcium score test tomorrow and will decide when the results of that are in. Regardless, I'm starting to think whatever damage has been done is done and the risks of starting now might not be worth it. It's a risk either way you go.

Not surprising since there is only a tiny bit of money allocated for the study/research of women's health.

It seems clear to me that women aren't demanding that their medical institutions and physicians become better educated about hormone replacement and menopause. Until we do, change will be minimal. If I think only about my generation if women....baby boomers...we have missed the chance(for the most part) vital years of bhrt that could have lide changing.

I am hopeful that the days of "you will get through it, it will be ok," are behind us. The generations in front of us are more persistent than us boomers........Even though we missed a lot, we can still advocate for ourselves by being as educated as possible.
There are a few problems with osteoporosis that we have experienced. The level of understanding is much greater now. When you and I walked into this, the only thing the medical community knew was to through pharmaceuticals at it, which, in my opinion, are scarier than the diagnosis.
The early studies on hrt were done with 30% of the women having some other health concern, smokers, overweight...........and the studies were conducted on synthetic hormones. Science followed the original study through 2024 to find that, yes, there are risks for women that didnt start hrt earlier but the clinical significance of the risks are minimal compared to breaking a hip and hugely beneficial, like 10% gain in bone quality. As life goes, it is always risk vs benefits.

I just read an article about Dr. Newsom losing her accreditation due to overprescribing. BBC September 2024

I personally make it a point to avoid any 'advice' from someone who calls herself a 'Dr' but is not a physician. First things first: verify credentials.
