mave, See a Rheumatologist. They tend to be the most versed in RA. Praying for you.....Blessings.....
Be patient and work with your rheumatologist. You may need to take a
disease modifying drug for control and there is hope for remission and good control of your symptoms. Diet and exercise or physical therapy compliance
are your part of the therapeutic plan.
Thank you for your help
My functional medicine doctor suggested the Auto Immune Protocaol Diet (AIP). Warning: Its very difficult to adhere to and is just meant to be on for a few months until you see if it works then adding back in foods slowly to see which ones trigger flareups. I was on it for 3 months and had never felt better. I still try to avoid certain foods that are known to trigger flareups.
Another suggestion: Research Earthing and Grounding. There is a 15 minute video on YouTube that explains it all:
DOWN TO EARTH | The Earthing Movie 15 min Short Film. It has worked for my husband.
Besides of medication diet. Ask for a referral to a dietian who specializes in RA
Ask you doctor if you can do a trial of low dose naltrexone. Naltrexone is thought to minimize inflammation and modulate the immune system. I have about a 50% reduction in pain with a 3.5 mg dose per day. It is a prescription drug and must be created in a compounding pharmacy for this low of a dose. You start with a very low dose like .5 or 1.5 mg and work slowly to 4.5 mg. I dropped back down to 3.5 mg as that dose worked best for me.
It does have some side effects the first week or two. I was tired some days and had more energy on others to begin with. I had insomnia if I took it too late in the day. Now I just get more energy about two hours after I take it and it relieves the pain...nice to wake up and not have my knees throbbing. I also had vivid dreams (not nightmares) for about the first two weeks.
