What have you created lately?

Posted by alive @alive, May 30, 2025

I love working on creative projects! Over the years I have done gourd art, calligraphy, cross stitching, made purses and bags from recycled jeans and have created locker hooking tapestries.

This week I have been attending virtual arts and crafts workshops and have learned so much! Since I am working on a lot of projects made from recycled clothes, I especially enjoyed a workshop on making a landscape picture out of fabric. Here’s the piece I have just finished. It’s only 5x7, but it was a lot of fun making it.

I hope others will share their latest projects!

Just a quick share...

A couple weeks ago, on my YouTube channel I posted an old video (from 2019) of me taking my first unaided steps after having a stroke. It's only about 30 seconds.

Well, I don't know what happened, but over the next two days, I got about 2,500 hits. That may not sound like much, but my typical episodes only get about 50 - 100...in a year.

Weird, but it has encouraged me to keep looking for creative ways to share my "recovery to discovery" journey.

My most recent endeavor was with crocheting.i made a tiny poncho for a premie - then I had to add a hat and bootie's. It was great fun! I am in the middle of a toddler sweater now. Having difficulty from this dang depression too so I am stalled as is the boxer pound pup that has to get done this month! I would share a photo of the complete project but can we?

@tpmcg Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I have found that focusing on creating something for someone else is a great way to "get out of my own way" as it were. I also do simple crochet, and you'll rarely find me out and about without a portable project with me. Recently I delivered three shawls to my cancer clinic's infusion center. A fun little project is crocheting butterflies for my husband and bonus son to take and pass out on their motorcycle rides!

I’m sways crocheting!so wherever I go my crochet is also! Lately I’ve been a lot more tired, so I’m not getting as much done, but hopefully with getting some medical issues taken care of I’ll get some spark back in my daily life. I really like your butterfly thing, though that your husband and your boat Center are passing those out that’s really great! If we think of the pet rocks people pay put around for others to find! I actually found one one time! And it was fun to have found that a surprise from who knows who painted it. So thank you for your reply. I really appreciate that.

@tpmcg Be gentle on yourself! Having crochet, or whatever is creative for oneself, nearby is key. No pressure. Pick it up when you feel the urge or need to! Many times, knowing it is available to you will give a level of comfort.

Very true about giving comfort! Many times I take it along and never take it out but it is there if I want and that is helpful! I have it beside me at home too. Although I tend to get too many things started but gradually I am getting those done too. Not as much lately because of my lack of energy and depression but even if I can’t do anything else crocheting even some helps me feel like I have been productive. That helps a lot!
