I'm so glad for you! Does insurance cover SCT or did you have to pay out of pocket?

I am on Original Medicare and have an excellent Medigap policy. At least for Myelofibrosis, a SCT was not a covered procedure at the time of my transplant. However, Medicare would agree to cover it so long as I agreed to release all of my medical records for the procedure to Medicare, which I readily agreed to. I can only assume that this means Medicare is reviewing whether to make a SCT an approved procedure for Myelofibrosis. Maybe Medicare covers SCTs for other blood cancers like multiple myeloma, but I do not know that.

As I see from your below posting, you are not old enough to be on Medicare, so I assume you have private coverage through employment, etc. It is critical that anyone looking at a SCT confirm their carrier’s coverage for the procedure! My 4 week hospital stay and the related procedures was billed at around $450,000, although I don’t know what the contractual cost was with Medicare.
