Gastroparesis and lactobacillus probiotic

Posted by denisef @denisef, Dec 19, 2022

I saw online that multispecies Lactobacillus probiotic might help with gastroparesis by increasing gastric emptying time. Has anyone tried it and if so did you notice any improvement in your symptoms???

I’m nit really sure what caused gastroparesis with my Grandsin. He lives with me and at 7 started vomiting everything he ate every night when he lay down for sleep every night for months. He had a procedure done by a surgeon called a pyloroplasty and a 360 degree Nissen fundoplication. He then had no symptoms at all for many years. Then he started vomiting terribly again and was told he needed a revision in his Nissen fundoplicatiin wrao again. The surgeon said wrao was slipped and did a revision in it which was successful and he had no symotoms at all for 4 years. His symotoms the returned terribly with vomiting terribly and very forcefully. In Aaugust 2024 we took him to the head of gastro de who then referred him to a surgeon that said he needed a revision in his 369 Nissen fundoplicatiin wrap, but this time he would do a 270 degree Nissen Fundoplicatiion wrap which is a half wrap instead of a 360 degree Nissen fundoplicatiin wrap and that after this my Grandson would be perfect. This surgery failed and my grandson is even worse now then before the surgery which is so very sad for him and us. He is home not able to eat with no hunger and inky eats a tiny bit kater at nught when he doesn’t feel Naseous. He wakes up every day feeling very sick tired and nauseous burping gagging etc. it’s a nightmare fir him and us to watch. He tried erythromycin and a scoop tigether. An hour later I took him to the ER forcefully violently vimiting which is now very hard to stop even on IVmeds for naseau. The compazine doesn’t work anymore and the last 2 times in ER they used zYorexa (olajnapine) is the generic if it which he got intramuscular because he couldn’t keep the oral down . Last time the hospital used Halo but was rough in him the next couple days as it was harsh on his body. I’m sorry I rambled on about his condition. He had a third surgery and wasn’t given a gastric emptying test until after his third surgery failed with the 270 degree Nissen fundoplicatiin half wrao revision he was given so I don’t know what caused his gastroparesis. His gastric emptying study did show a severe gastric emptying result . Now my Grandsin is just hanging in and we’re hoping to find something that works to help him feel better and be able to function without feeling so I’ll and having to go to the ER violently vomiting whenever he calls me. Thank you so very very much to anyone that read the book I just wrote about my grandson. Thank you also to the person that asked about what caused glhis gastroparesis and caring. You have no idea how much I appreciate your help and am praying for the best and for everyone to feel better quickly now 🙏

Wow, your grandson has been through so much. One thing you did not mention is cyclic vomiting- this is something that children can have and adults as well. It sounds like your grandson has seen a lot of docs, and probably it is only docs that are going to be able to help him. My daughter will not consider surgery, and manages with domperidone. That might be useful for your grandson if his stomach is not emptying properly, but after the surgeries he has had, it may not be appropriate. All I can say is do not give up. For my daughter multiple trips to ER after vomiting occurred before a doc thought of gastroparesis as a cause and she was correct.

Also, a person with gastroparesis needs to learn what they can and cannot eat. It seems different for different people and maybe your grandson is aware of this. Diet is extremely important.

Thank you so very much for reading my long post about my Grandson. I’mao happy to hear that domoeridone has been working for your daughter😍and really appreciate your wonderful advice and heartfelt words. Was your daughter as hound as my grandson when she went in the medicine and has she been in it long? I’m a little worried about him using it as he needs an ekg first and read it can cause heart ❤️ arithmas and heart problems. I guess that’s why the FDA won’t approve it in the US but didn’t understand why it’s approved in Canada but not here. He’s really not feeling well, but torn between trying the domoeridone or the gastric permanent implant , since he was not able to try the temporary one the day he started getting sick during procedure and gif a bloody nose when Dr inserted wires up his nose. He was thinking of trying the domperidone but I would feel so guilty if anything happened with his heart because I mentioned it to the nurse practioner and she said the Dr did have notes that might be an option for him to try. It’s nit an easy decision but I just want to make sure he isn’t permanently heart damaged in any way. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart 💜 for your kindness and help and praying your daughter stays well now and always! 🙏💜💚❤️😘

Thank you very much! Your advice is so greatly appreciated. It’s funny you should say that as when we brought the papers home from adr Weinstein iffice he left them with me lol . He felt there was no rhyme or reason connected with what foid caused his severe violent non stop vomiting ir nit, so didn’t really think the diet would matter, but is slowly starting to say to me he doesn’t want to eat anything that might increase his chances of ending up in the ER to eat even though it was his birthday yesterday. He said agrandma I’ll just make a some angel Basie pasta in the microwave in a microwave pasta Fasta cooker I had given him awhile ago lol. In the past he would East heavier things like that fried sweet and sour breaded Chinese chicken he loves and chicken and broccoli 🥦 from the Chinese restaurant . He is starting to underrating the diet and trying, but it doesn’t really change that he still wakes up feeling sick and benching and nauseas and gagging . But the Mayan thing is he doesn’t want to end up with nonstop violent vomiting they have a hard time stopping in IV’s now. I don’t really want him to implant a gastric stimulator nit kniwing if it will help him considering all his circumstances . But, just oraying and hoping that something can help him lead a life that he kings fir. It’s just so hard and sad . Never has driven, went in a date, and he’s such a wonderful kind compassionate kid it’s so very heartbreaking. When it’s kids it hurts us more.
Thank you for listening to me vent. I cry every day for him. It’s just so hard to see kids so sick.
Ty again for the reminder that he needs to follow a diet now that he’s nit ever done before. He’s just always in the ER suffering terribly. 🙏💜❤️💚😘

The reason he’s never gone in a date is because he never feels well enough to even leave the house. He’s very handsome which makes no difference but when we go to the hospital the young nurses swoon over him 😆 lol. But sadly he’s always too sick to care.

My last comment, since I have told all I know- your grandson is an adult. He needs to take responsibility for his health and you have done more than enough I think. Only he can determine how his life is going to be, and that means adjusting what he eats and does to the diet limitations he has. You sound loving and I understand your trying so hard to help him, but its now his turn to take control. In the end he will be better for it.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your very helpful and truthful comments My heart bleeds for how severely sick this has left him, but your words were so very eye opening and helpful to me. He only eats about one thing in the early evening and really has no appetite at all, so it looks as though he’s trying to eat only something his belly will tolerate now. It’s just hard nit knowing if this is just one entity as he does have severe gastroperesis or there is another entity going in as he just had a 270 degree 1/2 Nissen fundoplication wrao done instead of the2 360 wraps that he had done that had totally taken away all his symptoms until this surgeon operated in him in August 2024 and he is worse than he was. Not knowing exactly what is going on is the difficult part. I know he has severe Gastroperesis but I feel there may be another entity going on besides just this. I’m nit sure and don’t know what to do is the very hard part. Thank you so much for your very caring and kind words. You have no idea how much I appreciate your help as I am just very heartbroken and dint know what to do next to see if there is still going in with the latest Nissen fundoplicatiin wrao and if there was any damage due to the last surgery and if any further fix in this would be beneficial in any way. 🙏💜🙏😘

Everything you mention and need to know will have to come from medical people- maybe someone other than the docs he has seen up to now. If he is as sick as you imply, there should certainly be some ways medical people can help. Do ask about domperidone- it causes the stomach to empty. My daughter needs this med to empty her stomach.

Lastly, do you live in or near a major city? There should be good docs and/or teaching hospitals there if you do. Maybe Mayo docs can help.

I don’t live anywhere near any of the Mayo Clinic’s , but have thought of trying to get him into one. His sister whi is 29 waited 16 months to get into the one in Jacksonville Florida but she lives in Florida and has lupus affecting her kidneys. I also have lupus and feel so badly for her. I feel so badly that I genetically gave it to her. Thank you again for all your wonderful help, advice and kindness! I appreciate everything , and wish your daughter continued good health always!🙏❤️💚💜😘
