Has anyone had a problem with lack of appetite with bronchiectasis?

Posted by deestrada @deestrada, 2 days ago

I am being treated for MAC and Bronchiectasis. It seems that ever since I've had a flareup with bronchiectasis and increased my lung treatments at home I am continually losing weight because of lack of appetite. Has anyone had this problem and how did you remedy it?

Thank you for your feedback! Do you experience any intestional discomfort after drinking the Premier Protein drinks? I've tried every kind but still end of stopping because of the intestional problem.

While I was on the antibiotics for MAC, I could not use any protein drinks with dairy or whey - so I used Orgain. Now I can use Premier Protein - but only one every day or so. More than that gives me intestinal issues. I also limit other dairy except yogurt and other cultured products and lactose free milk. Quite a change for one who lived on dairy and cheese for most of my life!

@deestrada I used the "one hour plan" to stop y weight loss - I never felt hungry, and often nauseated. So every hour I ate a small high-calorie nutritious snack of at least 150 calories - cashews, 4-8 ounces of a homemade high-protein smoothie, 4 oz full-fat yogurt with berries and or sprouted seeds, 2 Tbsp of peanut butter or hummus and a few crackers, 1 oz of soft cheese, a hard-boiled egg...On days I wasn't nauseated, I would try to eat even a little more often. Over 2 years, I lost over 20 lbs and was below 100# - it took me over 4 years to gain 25#, and I gained a little more this past year that I feel is a bit much - but my 2 pulmonologists say not to try to lose it because if I get MAC again, having a little extra body mass would be good. (I do exercise and do weights regularly.)

Love your "one hour plan". I'm so busy I often don't eat for hours, obviously that is a problem. I so apreciate your suggestions!!

I am 5 ft 6 in and 112. There is a higher incidence of this disease in women with low BMI. This does not make sense to me. How can there possibly be a cause-and-effect relationship going on? I have bronch and so-far-untreated mycobacterium abscessus and notice my appetite fluctuates frequently,

Our bodies are using up the calories to fight the infection.
My primary doctor convinced me to start antibiotics.
My blood pressure is low.
Lost so much weight.
No muscle.
I was blaming it on the statin I've been taking for over 10 years.
I'm trying antibiotics for 3 months.

I use orgain also.
Do you use the powder or ready made?
I'm thinking of getting powder so can buy organic 1% milk.
And have ready made in fridge when tired at night.
I go between grass-fed milk and plant based.

Many of the snacks require no refrigeration, so I would line them up wherever I was working, or on bad days would have 2-3 on my end table near my chair. And we never leave home, except for short errands, without nutritious snacks - each vehicle has a bag for them.
