@josephene I am having terrible insomnia as well. Nothing seems to help. Any specific suggestions? Many thanks.

I'd like to know how it compares to Ambien. I'm taking Seroquel and Ambien to get to sleep and stay there.
And besides being stubborn about taking it every night, do you feel like you would be awake and alert if you took it every night?
I've taken Ambien for over 20 years, and I Cannot go to sleep without it, but I cannot Stay asleep on it.

All of my adult life I have had problems sleeping. About 15 years ago I went to therapy and was diagnosed with PTSD and given Seroquel for sleep. Years later, I was switched to Trazodone. Both 'turn off' your brain so that you dream but it does not interfere with your sleep. It helps most people fall and stay asleep. Lucky for me, my post menopausal brain, wants to wake up and not fall back to sleep. After months and months of trying everything under the sun to go back to sleep, a new doctor prescribed Silenor for me. I take 3 mg an hour before I'm ready for bed, and the Trazodone at bedtime. Guess what? My bladder doesn't even wake me up!!! I don't take it every night, because I'm stubborn like that. I really appreciate trying your various tips and find I'm much more relaxed when I do go to sleep.

@sandytoes14 Jen, you sound so much like me. For some reason I am falling asleep easier these days and most times when I get up I can back to sleep quickly but I get up almost every hour for bathroom trips. Of course being on 80 to 100 ounces of water/fluid a day to combat kidney problems does not help. Interrupted is not nearly as restful as staying asleep, I just read recently about how much effects you.

@JustinMcClanahan I don't mind at all! After two or three nights of sleeping at least 8 hours or more, I don't feel the need to go to bed on time, thus making falling asleep problematic. By taking it a few times a week, I am getting good, uninterrupted sleep. I do not wake feeling groggy or have any problems the next day when I take the Silenor.

@robbinr If I remember correctly, Ambien helped me fall asleep, but I had terrible side effects. (Sleepwalking, sleep-drinking--yes really!) Silenor does not make me feel groggy the next day. Silenor works to block histamines in the brain. Here is a link to their website. http://bit.ly/2sDujmE

I was looking back at the discussions and saw you were having problems with insomnia. It made me wonder if you've had any resolution. Perhaps you tried some of the things that were mentioned in your discussion?

To say that you don't sleep invites a thousand questions - are you ill, stressed, under- or over-exercising?
I slept the sleep of the dead for a solid 6-7 hours every night until I had my son - I was an "older" mother -35.
Then, I got so stressed about the baby monitor, I stopped sleeping.
I've been on Ambien for 20+ years, and it never gave me more than 4 hours of down time.
My Dr. just put me on Seriquil, and now I have trouble getting back out of sleep. Too Strong.
Yoga? Warm Milk at night? Using sound tracks that put you into theta sleep?
Hot baths with Epsom salts seem to be very effective for me
when nothing else works...Pot? It knocks me out. Tell me more about why you don't sleep.
I find if I get overactive in they evening - I'm doomed for sleep. Take care.
Tell more.
