My husband and I have been married about 5 months. I’m 70 and he’s 65. I’ve been married before and he is the dearest most loving man I’ve ever known. A couple of months ago I awoke to him trying to grab my hands in a violent manner. It was clear that he was asleep but still frightening. A couple of weeks later this happened again. About 2 weeks ago I awoke to him having his hands around my neck and he didn’t readily let go. I’m passive to a fault but I told him I was frightened. I was/am convinced that he was completely unaware of what he did. Last night I awoke to his hitting me. I yelled at him to stop and moved to the far side of our bed. I wondered if he was subconsciously angry at me. This morning I told him how traumatic these incidents were to me and that I seriously believed he might have anger issues toward me. He was so grieved that I truly believed he had no conscious control over his actions. This led me to googling for help in what is going on with him. I found a short clip on YouTube which we watched and I became aware of RBD. What a relief and a sobering reality at the same time. Tonight I came across this support group and am so thankful. It is very scary to hear that LBD and PD as likely to follow. Over the past year I’ve begun to struggle with episodes of short term memory loss and wasn’t sure I should marry, but my husband convinced me he loved me and wanted to marry me in spite of my anxieties. Again, thankful for the knowledge I’ve gained and this group. Not sure what we’ll do next.
