What is "Pseudo Cancer"?

Posted by inquirer @inquirer, Jun 3, 2025

A biopsy revealed cells consistent with Serous Endometrial Intraepithelial Carcinoma with p53 expression so I'm scheduled for a hysterectomy on Monday. Upon initial review, my original oncologist casually said, "maybe it's a pseudo cancer." What is a "pseudo cancer"? How can you tell a pseudo cancer from any other cancer. Can't make sense of that comment and Google is no help. Anyone familiar with "Pseudo Cancer"?

One of many internet posts:(Pseudo Cancer) Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare type of cancer that typically starts in the appendix and leads to the accumulation of mucin, a jelly-like substance, in the abdominal cavity. It can cause symptoms like abdominal swelling and discomfort, and treatment usually involves surgery and chemotherapy. ?????

Hello Helen,

Hope your MRI resulted in the desired outcome. An update would be appreciated.

As for me, I had my hystorectomy last Monday. Helpful advice from this site and others helped to get me through it all. Hopefully i'm on the right road to recovery (and I believe I am). Have to await pathology results to plan next steps.

@inquirer Thank you so very much for letting me know that your found our support helpful to you. I went into my cancer journey and hysterectomy knowing very little about what to expect. Fortunately, I had a pre-op nurse who took the time with me to fill me in one what to expect during the recovery process. I hope you are being kind and compassionate with yourself. Do you have the follow-up scheduled yet to discuss the pathology results?

Thank you too for asking about my MRI. I had the MRI locally however the radiology report was scant. After a consult with my primary care physician who ordered the MRI I realized that she more in the images that the radiologist did not report on at all. So, my primary care physicians sent the MR images to Mayo Clinic (I'm already a patient at Mayo Clinic in Rochester) to get their radiologist's report. From the Mayo Clinic radiologist I learned that there are two tendons in the rotator cuff are torn (there are four tendons in the rotator cuff mechanism). I will talk with my primary care physician this coming week and learn what she recommends. At this point I'm wondering if I will go to orthopedics and find out if I'm a surgery candidate for these rotator cuff tears. We shall see what the next steps will be.

How are you feeling today? Do you have any pain?

I'm still in a lot of pain but getting progressively better. Never having surgery before, I would be concerned if not for the experience you and others have shared on this site. My follow-up is on the 24th.

Hoping you're a candidate for whatever is necessary to fix the rotator cuff. I've heard pain from a tear can be really intense. If they say no surgery, hopefully they'll propose other options. If not, maybe we can research that ourselves.

@inquirer Your follow-up is barely more than a week away so that's good. Thanks for letting me know how you are feeling and that while you have pain it is diminishing.

Thanks for the good wishes for my shoulder. I'll let you know what the plan is and like you said, may I can do some research myself. And of course, ask for support and ideas in the Discussion group for Bones, Joints, and Muscles.
