Eczema or Hives/Atopic Dermatitis + Bronchiectasis

Posted by blm1007blm1007 @blm1007blm1007, 3 days ago

I mentioned a while back and nearly forgot about my being told I have Eczema until my flare up last week. I did not fully understand Eczema until this flare up and what the dermatologist informed me of in terms of what can happen, Bullous pemphigoid. Supposedly per my readings it is rare, the Bullous pemphigold but can happen.
I was told to use the Over the Counter Cera Ve moisturizing cream when originally diagnosed and this time with the flare up the dermatologist prescribed Cera Ve moisturizing cream with Clobetasol, a corticosteroids, from the formulary pharmacy.
Wanting to know if many of us have also been told, diagnosed, with a chronic skin problem, an inflammatory skin condition, such as an Atopic Dermatitis like Eczema or Hives as well as our Bronchiectasis.???

Yes I had a flare up last winter - never had Eczema before. None of my docs connected the dots- thank you.
I have BE and mAbcessus.

After Covid my skin worsened. I had never been properly diagnosed to determine whether I had eczema or psoriasis or both. After Covid I developed Crohn's disease, which is linked to both conditions as it is to bronchiectasis. My Crohn's is now stable on Skyrizi, a monoclonal antibody which also treats psoriasis -- it has thankfully cleared up my formerly-flaking/inflamed skin also.

These are all autoimmune conditions. I'm finding new manifestations of post-Covid autoimmune disease every year, unfortunately, bronchiectasis just being the latest. I now wonder, what organ(s) will it show up in next?

The question asked of us often in passing...."How are you".
My reply often before I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis was " I feel fine but who knows what might be lurking inside of me."
So I now know somewhat of what was lurking inside of me and wanting to come out....results of inflammation etc. Dry eyes, Eczema, Bronchiectasis all with a strong possibility of association with inflammation.
The big question for me...what caused my inflammation. I will probably never know for sure.
So, yes, wonder what is being affected by whatever we have been diagnosed with now that might also affect something else...... yet to flare up. Hopefully, nothing.

I had an area of eczema on my back several years ago. It was treated with prescription steroid cream and improved other than occ. itchiness that I treated with OTC steroid cream after Rx got too old. It's been quite mild.
As I've posted, I'm dealing with autoimmune urticaria now and had 1 episode 12 years ago. It's not mild.

Hi pacathy- So far I consider the Eczema flare up mild. The itching lasted a good few days and all has subsided I am happy to say. Just waiting on the red rash to fully go away.
All this just made me think about a few things...like my three bouts with shingles which were mild, my mild case of Covid, and now this first flare up of Eczema and my low load of MAI with the Bronchiectasis.
Hoping I can keep my immune system strong enough to be able to say in the future....all mild cases.
For me putting the weight back on has been a challenge. I am stable but at about 98lbs at 5' 4"and a 1/4" tall, that is not enough. Without the cake and ice cream type of treats it is hard to get the BMI up there.
Hope your day goes well.

@blm1007blm1007, Hi Barbara, I was able to gain 20 lbs in 18 months by adding some gluten free ramen pasta (from Costco) to my dinner, adding a big slice of clafoutis (no sugar, just one small spoon of honey) with blueberries or pears for breakfast and feeding myself another big slice of clafoutis right after my workout. All my meals are homecook, and are rather healthy (green veggies, sweet potato, protein, avocado). It seems it is hard for me to go above lbs 120.00. My pulmo would like me to add more weight, I told him that will have to do it: I am the biggest I have ever been and my stomach can't stretch any further. He seemed surprised but resigned himself.
Best wishes of great health to all of us!

Thank you gigiv.
I had to look up clafoutis. Yes I would also prefer the honey after looking at a recipe for it.
I haven't been outside the home for a meal for months so yes all my meals also are homecooked. Thank goodness we can do that for ourselves and another thing I am thankful for, I like to cook. I like be creative in the kitchen. Same here, green veggies, sweet potato, protein, avocado. When I make my avocado toast I will often use coleslaw and cucumber as my green for the morning and then feta cheese on it with avocado oil.
I may do the egg noodles vs the ramen. I have been doing pasta once a week but maybe if I do the egg noodles each evening that will do what the ramen pasta did for you. Thanks.

I looked up urticaria vs eczema. Two different types of presentations on the skin. So interesting that there are so many types of skin problems and many if not all appear to have a relationship to inflammation.
My dad had psoriasis over his entire body. His psoriasis surfaced when he was 18. For Dad the sun would help clear it up and then resurface in the winter. For me, the Eczema, the sun and temp does just the opposite, I do believe that is what caused this flare up for me, my being out in the sun for over an hour in high temperature....plus and maybe...the day after that I had a regular visit with the dermatologist who 'burned off' pre cancer areas. So all three.... sun, temp. and 'burn off' probably came together to cause the flare up. My philosophy is: "it is never one thing" rather it is a combination of things, most times. that cause events and happenings. I wonder?????
Hope you have had an easy day considering all.
