When there is literally no support
How long before a person just stops therapy or even caring at all when there are no physical resources?
There are 0 in person support groups within a 3 hour drive of where I live.
But I live near 3 bigger cities.
The only support group around is AA.
It's brutal, especially when you deal with a lot and need a connection. I'd try anything! The church groups or addiction group just aren't useful to me at all. Ive tried online groups but it's usually a tangled mess.
It's hard to fit in when I can't make those connections and I just want to roll away in a ball.

Hi, I’m truly sorry for your situation, it’s definitely frustrating to be unable to get help due to lack of availability where you live. I would think that there’s help available online? I have read previous posts from people who have the same problem and were able to find someone to assist them in getting connected, some people have mentioned using Zoom for support groups and they’re all over the world, a lot of therapy is done online, I did the same thing, I researched for the help I needed and eventually it worked out. I hope this helps you out with getting started, please don’t get discouraged, just give it a try and see how it goes, good wishes for your future.
@januaryjane
I hear you about feeling like you do.
Since you live near 3 big cities, have you looked into college/university mental health programs with hospitals you could consider for outpatient services? I recall when I had postpartum depression there were programs offered outpatient with the hospital that was tied to local universities/colleges.
I had to have help too. The current stress in the US the media too many life changes unrealistic life expectations loss of my ability to set boundaries. I have ptsd. I am in 2 other support groups where zoom meetings are held. In one group I have a peer to peer support person. This group is very helpful. I had the experience of trying churches and their groups but it was toxic for me. The individuals there were judgemental and controlling. Keep looking. Can you get a pet? I have 2 dogs that are my emotional support animals. About 8 months ago due to the election etc I got in a very dark place. I have social security so I focused on that. Obtaining facts making sure my social security was in order. I listen to Dr Ed Weir who ran the 3rd largest social security office. This was the beginning of another second chance for me. I mentioned this because I try to be very logical and use critical thinking skills. I do now email senators in my state asking them to intervene in regards to social security medicaid medicare etc. It gave me a purpose again. I walk daily 3000 plus steps daily read and listen to psycho education podcasts on you tube. Paradoxically 2 of my prescription meds were reduced in dosage. Escitalopram from 10mg to 5mg. I take lamotrgine for seizure prophylaxis ER 100mg. The origional dose was 200mg daily. It is lots of work to stay physically and mentally healthy. I have to set and reset boundaries a lot and most people do not like it nor understand it.
Thank you for sharing! I like the idea of using support groups online. Could you possibly share the ones you use by sending links or maybe the name of them?
Yes. Veteran Spouses Network. BIAA. Brain injury association of america. I had a craniotomy in May 2014 Removed abcess left temporal lobe from bacterial meningitis of my brain. These groups may not help everyone however depression anxiety stress ptsd is common for us all and I learn from others.
I haven't found anything. Even local therapists don't know about any.
Im glad you've been able to decrease your medication. That's awesome. Yes I do have a pet, they are great outlets. I've tried zoom groups a few times but it just felt very disconnecting for me.
Yes, upkeep of the physical and mental is a real job.
If you go on Facebook and search for mental health support groups, you’ll find loads on there, also have a look on the NHS website and you’ll find a range of services on there too.
Mind is a mental health charity too…if you ring the doctors and ask to see a social prescriber, they’ll put you in touch with all of them, they do online, good luck 🤞 I wish you all the best
