@jsmith1006 My son has been having the exact same pain, same circumstances (only at night, go weeks with our pain, no pain while playing) My son is almost 7 and has been complaining of this pain for years. Our pediatrician thought it was just growing pains. Ibuprofen was recommended but doesn't really seem to work.
In the last few months it has become more intense. After doing our own research, We (my husband and I) thought my it could be juvenile arthritis. We recently saw a rheumatologist, we ruled out the auto immune diseases, and juvenile arthritis (no swelling, inflammation on his joints) with blood work and X-rays.
We are no closer to having answers. I was hoping you were able to get the pain diagnosed!? I love any insight you have gotten!

We have an upcoming appointment with a pediatric orthodontist
Our rheumatologist suggested an MRI, kind of more of a last resort.

Hello @vlbowen and @ryan5001, Welcome to Connect. I'm sorry to hear that your sons both have pains similar to @jsmith1006's son. I am not sure @jsmith1006 is still following Connect as their last post was over a year ago. I'm hoping they will respond and share an update with any progress that has been made.

In case you haven't already seen it, Mayo Clinic has some self care tips on growing pains that may be helpful while you are trying to get a diagnosis and treatment - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/growing-pains/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20354353.
