Pain after cystoscopy

Posted by topquark @topquark, Apr 30, 2022

Is there any good solution to the burning pain in distal urethra and meatus following both flexible and rigid cystoscopy?
"Drinking lots of water" just causes more episodes.
Is there a gelled Xylocaine? Similar methods?

Yes, there is a jelly Xylocaine. Didn't the doctor inject some before your procedure.
If you ask for some the doctor will probably tell you to drink lots of water to dilute the urine and take Tylenol or some such thing that won’t work. I have seizures and bite my tongue and cheeks.
I had a hard time getting the spray. it doesn’t last long in the mouth but I’m not sure how long it would last in the urethra either. I wonder if the urine would wash it away. Has it been more than a day or so since your procedure? If so and the burning/pain is still there you may have an infection. I’d ask the doctor for a urine culture. Next time you may want to ask for an ultrasound or CT first. But if they don’t show anything you’re probably in for another
cystoscopy.
Best of luck,
Jake

I had a Cystoscopy on June 5. Today is June 11. I am still having issues with some spasms and weird feelings on the tip of my penis. I posted elsewhere I am getting a TURP. My voids are ridiculous. Less than 100 ML, less than 200 ML This about the same as before the scope. Somehow the other day I was able to void 300 ML.

My issue now is I absolutely can't drink anymore diet coke. Had a couple of glasses with a sandwich yesterday evening. Started to get urgency and only urinating 50-100 ML. This was every few minutes. Had pain emanating from my penis. Not the broken glass feeling after the scope. This was different like the diet coke had irritated my bladder, prostate and urethra all at once. In the past diet coke wouldn't even create urgency. Not like iced tea or hot coffee. I guess my urethra is still scarred and sensitive from the scope. Have no idea how long it will take to completely heal. I have my TURP scheduled for the middle of July. Not looking forward to it. Not the operation but the recovery. Imagine the whole to area to be sensitive for weeks into months.

I was scoped before at a much younger age and I don't remember any problems past the first day. I guess as your parts get older they have a much tougher time healing from the trauma of a scope.

You may want to try Phenazopyridine. It can be bought over the counter at many drug stores under the names AZO or as urinary pain relief agents. It would be good to get physician approval first.

The pain cleared up the Cystoscopy a few days ago. I haven't had any diet coke and will stay away from it for quite a while. Amazing I can drink all the iced tea I want and it doesn't create an issue. Obviously it's a diuretic but it doesn't cause any pain or urgency.
