Has anyone suffered Balance issues from Proprioception?

@gerri1mayo I’m sure that you will hear from members tomorrow! But, could you explain your situation a little better for us? Do you have a sudden problem with balance? And can you explain proprioception? I think that if we understand a little more, we should be able to help. Thanks!

dlydailyhope-
Thank you for these links.
I'm having a mix of vertigo and proprioception difficulties.
I lose awareness of my posture and slump into a scoliotic posture, becoming dizzy or disoriented.
This may be related to a shoulder injury that causes my to hold one shoulder higher, then tilts the spine.
I deal with it, but it ain't fun.
My first Physical Therapist did a quick diagnosis/fix of the vertigo, that's all.
I changed to a different Therapist who did a deeper exam and "gets" what's happening.
We begin regular therapy later this month.
I'm doing my best to keep moving, avoiding rough terrain, being careful at night and using a walking staff when walking the dog.
Meanwhile I'm reviewing Alexander technique lessons from years ago, which called my awareness to the shoulder tilt. Our bodies are amazing!

I have had Meniere's disease for approximately 30 years. It is progressive. Proprioception is knowing where my body is in space. My disease showed itself in my late forties and early 50" when I walked down hallways. I couldn't walk straight. I have gotten used to it but I fear a cop seeing me somewhere and asking me if I have been drinking. I take diuretics to minimize my symptoms. I am sorry to hear of your difficulties. Balance is important in any movement. Good Luck.

Thank you for commenting.
None of my doctors could give me the reason why when I stood against a wall, close my eyes and try to touch my nose. I did it for as long as the doctor told me and when I was done, I was facing a completely different wall nobody has an answer for me so I looked up this word and I think that’s what I have. But no one can give me an answer. Thank you.

Aileen, I also feel the same way about when I walk ,I think the same thing that someone is going to think I’m drunk.

Good morning, gerri1mayo (@gerri1mayo)

Has anyone suggested talking to a neurologist? I ask that because I had been puzzled by my slowly worsening balance for yesrs and being told by one PT after another "You're getting older, Ray, and balance always deteriorates with age." That would puzzle me because at whatever age I'd be told that I'd have a dozen friends of my same age who could walk tightropes (not that they did 🙂 ). It wasn't until I finally met with a neurologist that I learned that my balance woes were arising mostly because of my heretofore undiagnosed peripheral neuropathy (mine is chronic idiopathic axonal polyneuropathy), I won't go into the details (unless you'd like me to); I just wondering if a chat with a neurologist might be a good idea.

I wish you the absolute best!
