I'm still asking why anagrelide isn't suggested more often for ET...my platelets 18 years ago were over 1800, caught by sheer accident. Started then Agrylin (not yet generic), it continues to work, two capsules daily now. We fiddled with the dosage, used to take one 5 mg daily, two on weekends, then two MWF. Once, when original Dr. retired, the new young doc was SO upset I'd never had a bone marrow test and wasn't on HU we tried that...for six unbelievably awful weeks trying to get blood work stable. Anagrelide never interfered or caused any symptoms. Then again, the ET never caused symptoms I'm aware of. Now, at 75, happy to keep up the regime. I AM NOT A DOCTOR, just my experience. Hope you platelets level out!!

When I was diagnosed with ET, I knew from my Dad's experience that meds would be in the cards in a few years. After reading up on HU and anagrelide, the only treatments at that time, my first choice was anagrelide. But I discussed both HU and anagrelide with my cardiologist. I have mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation, and he said that anagrelide could cause abnormal heart rhythm. He said the HU would be a better choice for me heartwise.

Some people love anagrelide and it works good. Some people have bothersome cardiac symptoms with it. We're all different.
