At what AQI level do you mask outside?
Just wondering what measure folks use on the AQI to use a mask outdoors. I’ve been using above 50. Ours is 105 now from wildfire smoke. I seem to be the only person wearing a mask in my area.

We get air quality alerts which include guidelines "for sensitive groups" or other categories.
It's easy to check air quality by zip code or city on AirNow.gov.
Here's one guideline.

1 ReactionHi pacathy-
Have you seen the N95 by 3 M that is a three panel.??
I, myself, wear that one 90% of the time around people, doing house cleaning or in other environments that I feel the mask is needed.

4 ReactionsI don't use that one, but 3m is a reputable company and if it's NIOSH approved, it should be fine.
Sue, I don’t see the pictures of the mask that you mentioned, could you please send it?
Thanks!
I have tried twice and it won't go. Google "N95 respiratory mask"
Sue,
Based on your description in an your earlier post in this thread, I bought some of these masks on Amazon and am giving them a try to prepare for some upcoming travel I hope to do next month. I have not used them yet so I am not personally endorsing this model. But I thought it would be helpful if I uploaded a picture. Does this look like the kind of mask you use?
Yes, it looks similar. Here's a tip based on personal experience - if the straps are stapled on, take a mini-stapler along in your purse - some brands have an annoying habit of coming unstapled.
(It is useful in a lot of other ways when traveling)

1 ReactionI have been using a mobile app called IQAir in my home area to keep up with air quality alerts. I was pleased to find out this week that it is working well for me while traveling in Canada (Quebec City and Montreal at least).
The app is listed as:
"IQAir AirVisual | Air Quality"
I find the information it provides to be timely and helpful. I can set threshold alert levels as well as ask for daily reports on a city by city basis as I travel.
It really came in handy this week as wildfire smoke caused a sudden change in air quality in Quebec province which triggered alerts for deteriorating air quality and I was notified in time to modify my plans for timing outdoor activity.
Perhaps it will help others.
