Mayo Parking Ramp Closure in late July - Rochester MN

Posted by Laurie, Volunteer Mentor @roch, Jun 9 9:19am

The Damon Parking Ramp will permanently close for demolition in late July. The actual date has not been announced. For those familiar with Rochester's Mayo campus, the Damon parking ramp is across the street from Gonda entrance on 3rd Ave SW.

The West Parking Ramp will be made available for patients when the Damon ramp closes. The West Parking Ramp is currently used for employee parking. Many Mayo employees who used to park downtown are being transition to parking lots in other parts of Rochester and being shuttled to Mayo locations.

The West Parking Ramp is still connected to Mayo buildings via subway, but it is few blocks farther away from the Gonda building. There will be Mayo employees present to assist with wheelchairs if needed. But with all the street construction and parking changes, you should plan according to arrive at your appointments on time.

The Graham parking ramp will remain open and valet parking will still be available for a charge. In addition, many visitors find they can avoid driving downtown altogether by taking advantage of free hotel shuttles,

I am not a Mayo employee, just a patient and volunteer mentor, but want to make you aware of the changes coming. As a patient who visits the downtown campus often, I face the same frustration with parking as many of you do. All I can do is be patient and plan ahead.

Will Graham be accesible from 3rd Ave SW? I assume it would be better to access it via Center street to 3rd Ave SW. I have been accessing it from Broadway to 2nd street SW over to 3 Ave SW so I'm thinking Broadway to center street to 3rd Ave SW.

Best way to access the West ramp coming up Broadway? Anyone?

@bajjerfan

To get to Graham parking ramp from Broadway, I suggest Center street to 3rd Ave. 2nd St currently has construction so I would avoid.

As far as direction to West Parking Ramp, I will update this post when Mayo provides more information. There are currently multiple entrances and not sure what entrance they will use for patients.

I'll be heading up to the Mother Ship at the end of August for my 10,000 mile check up. I often use the Graham ramp but now I'm thinking that may be over run as well. I guess I will see what it is like. Thanks for the heads up.

@hrhwilliam There is a lot of construction going on all around the downtown campus. By a lot I mean on just about every street! We were at Mayo in Rochester in mid-May. Fortunately, there is ample detour signage so if you have a destination in mind you will get there by following the signs. I would advise leaving extra time to get to your destination.
