Heavy Everyday Dull Headache, Plus The 2nd Headache That Comes Along.

Posted by aleshapeterson @aleshapeterson, May 24 8:32am

My head feels heavy everyday. If I bend over forward, it feels heavy and when I sit back, it's like my head is moving in motion, like my head hasn't caught up with my body. When I look down then look up, it's like my head hasn't caught up with looking up.

With this, I don't take any medicine. If a sinus headache comes, I feel it in my gums. Other times I feel the headache under my eye brow. This 2nd headache goes away, but the full/fluid/dizzy/in motion feeling is always there.

In 2021, I had an ear infection and that's when all of this started. I have pulsating tinnitus and hearing loss in my right ear. I've had MRIs, scans, a spinal tap, and many tests but no real answers. I also go to a neurologist, but my headaches haven't stopped.

I have a somewhat similar feeling a lot of the time. I have been diagnosed with both migraines & cervicogenic headaches by neurologist after MRI etc. Tried PT & meds-no help so far.

Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect, @harishkumar. Sorry to hear you've had to deal with these symptoms so long. It sounds like you are doing a good job of trying to get to the bottom of them by your visits with specialists.

I wanted to clarify whether you are saying you have depression headaches, which I understand are often tension headaches, or another headache type? How do these headaches typically come on?

Hi, @harishkumar - that would be frustrating to be trying to study and have a headache come on.

Tagging @roseann4z @aleshapeterson from this discussion to offer any insights they can on a headache that develops in the front region of your head with pressure. @ritacous40 @churchaustin2 @jenniferhunter also may have some insights for you.

Have you been to your primary care doctor or a neurologist specializing in headaches? Or are you not at that point yet? If you have seen a doctor, did they offer a diagnosis?

@harishkumar The headaches that I get are either related to allergies or my neck because I am a spine patient and have muscle spasms that affect my neck. Headaches in the forehead are usually sinus and allergies for me. I do allergy shots and take anti histamines to get it under control as well as HEPA air filtration in my house. Sinus issues can progress to an infection and my doctor has me treat that with an antibiotic ointment topically inside my nose. Dehydration also causes headaches, and caffeine exacerbates dehydration, so drinking lots of water helps.

There are so many causes for headaches. It may be helpful to keep a journal to track your headaches to try to determine a cause. Has your doctor provided a direction to help diagnose your symptoms?

Alesha: What you are describing sounds similar to a CFL, Cerebral Fluid Leak. I know you mentioned having an MRI, however; sometimes the CFL does not show up, but is there just the same. About 3 years ago that happened to me, the pain was like someone hit the back of my head with an axe. If I laid down flat, no pain but as soon as I stood or moved my head the pain came rapid fire. Bending over made it horrific. I ended up with an "Inconclusive MRI" but was put on bedrest for 6 weeks, no bending, no quick movements. My CFL healed on its own but I was very diligent about movement and bedrest, no fun but it worked.
If a CFL does not heal on its own, a "blood patch" can be done. A friend of mine had a CFL that could not be seen on an MRI, they did the surgery for the "Blood Clot patch", the first time they had the wrong spot, second surgery they found the leak and did the patch. Pastor Jamie had suffered for two years, going through tests and treatments until he finally found a Neuro that was able to connect all the dots without MRI confirmation. Today he is fine, the pain and pressure sensation is gone. If your medical team has not considered this, it might be worth looking into. Some doctors think you have to have a big occurrence to cause a CFL but that is just not the case. Hoping you find an answer. Kasey7

This is exactly the symptoms I am having. I actually had this happen to me when I had a spinal tap in 2008. I have told my physician but he is currently not pursing this issue because he prescribed Baclofen 10 mg 3x day and it works a little. 600 mg of ibuprofen actually works best.
