Anyone else experiencing these symptoms with CLL diagnosis....?

Posted by karmas1up @karmas1up, Feb 9 7:04pm

I was diagnosed with CLL last summer however upon further review of my medical records and CBC results found that my CLL likely goes back 7 years or more and was not put together. For the last three years I have been experiencing severe and painful flares of edema in my legs, feet, arms and hands. I have progressively painful daily joint pain and pain all through my legs. I have a negative rumeatoid arthritis test as well. I have lost a significant amount of my hair (about 2/3's - in the last couple of years) and continue to lose significant amounts. I have easy bruising and am constantly exhausted - I am not young but @ 38 I should have more energy than barley getting through a work day. I have spoken with my Drs about these symptoms and am in the "watch and wait" faze of the disease. My Dr has no explanation of most of my symptoms other than regular CLL and then the others he's stumped on - also overworked in my experience. So I thought I would reach out to other patients and specialist to see if I'm alone in my struggle. Thank you for any help...

@normahorn

The third blood test was flow cytometry.

I did have the flow cytometry done. Honestly my one and only appointment with my oncologist lasted all of about 6 minutes and he told me what I had but it was chronic there was no cure but treatments later on and that he would see me in for months. I have been unable to get their office to schedule an appointment since (there was a mix up with insurance for the first appointment and I think they are avoiding scheduling me until I pay off the first bill).

Hi. I was diagnosed with CLL stage 1. I'm Tired all the time too. I bruze easy as well. I'm 59 years old. I'm also in the wait and watch. With this I have a Low Immune system G. So I have to have fusions monthly when they go under 600. Mine are usually in the 400. I have had almost every blood test out there. I have to go see the Doc every three months. I do take daily vitamins as well because I find I get leg cramps really bad if I don't. I'm not sure if the vitamin decency is from the CLL or not. But I find I have to take my calcium, magnesium, B complex for energy, and a multivitamin. I find the super B complex does help me with the energy.

@mysticfish5252, I add my belated welcome. Does your oncologist/hematologist recommend which vitamins to take? Were you only recently diagnosed with CLL?

Hmmm..
I was diagnosed with CLL after my PCP referred me to a hematologist/oncologist following an elevated WBC during routine bloodwork.

Stage 0, no noticeable symptoms.

I am 69 years old and had a fall where I broke my humerus in two! I had never broken a bone or had any significant surgery.
Initially had an intermedullary nail implanted and all seemed good at my first followup. Next followup, all the signs of bone healing had vanished.

Removed the nail and put in plate and screws. Next followup, the top two screws had worked loose and the plate was not holding the break together.

Next, my surgeon removed the plate and put in a fibular cadaver bone and another plate and screws. That was four months ago. Last followup was inconclusive as the plate prevented a good view of the fracture site. Currently doing home treatment with ultrasound bone growth stimulating device. Followup in August.

Following my initial surgery, my hair started shedding (and I had long, beautiful hair! 😪) I asked my surgeon, who said in the thousands of surgeries he had done, there had been no incidents of hair loss. I had wondered if this could be a side effect of anesthesia. The last procedure had me out for five hours!

I know I've drifted off the CLL topic somewhat, but I had always wondered of the CLL had something to do with my bones not healing properly. Up until this point I had never had any problem healing from anything!

I'm new to this site and appreciate all who share their experiences.

Following your comments and any discussion to come, because I need knee replacement and I’m concerned about healing due to my CLL. I had an incident in 2019 from a dermatologist biopsy on my lower leg that took over six months to heal and left a bad scar. Prayers for your healing!

Sounds like my experience, fatigue, night sweats and out of breath with little exertion. I think my next appt is in September. We will see what my hematologist/oncologist has to say.

Hopefully, my follow-up in August will reveal some progress in coming together. Thank you for your response and I will keep you in my prayers as well.

I was diagnosed in November 2023. I was waylaid by my fall in December 2023 and the multiple surgeries over this past year and a half consumed all my attention and have not been back to my hematologist yet. The only symptom of CLL I notice is fatigue, but I've never been a very high energy person so I didn't really notice at first. Yeah, I need to knock off a few pounds as well. Being more active would be helpful I'm sure, but who can get motivated when everything seems like a huge effort?!
