My hubby has numb feet which in summer and wearing sandals is scary. His balance is also poor. But the pain...is in his upper back of legs below the buttocks. When still he is fine..when he moves its agony. Pain killers no good no matter how strong !! Got NP pills from USA this morning. Will update you after 1 week to see if they are helping...155.00 euros plus import duty fee for 3 bottles.
I have Sjogren's and Small and Large fiber Neuropathy caused by it. I take IvIg every 3 weeks for it. It has helped in many ways but done little for my balance problem. I also have muscle wasting in my legs that interferes with exercise. Going without my cane for any length of time (around the house) causes an achey pain in my legs. I think it is the leg wasting that is giving me the most trouble. (My horses don't like the changes either.) Any suggestions?
Some antidepressants help with numbness and pain. I also take alpha lipoic (OTC) acid which helped even more to reduce numbness. It has also helped my back pain.
I have peripheral neuropathy and I take top cherry for muscle pain and that seems to be working. I just started working with a chiropractor who is helping me with exercises and some adjustments.
When I try to use a stationary bike or a treadmill or elliptical, in 2 minutes my legs are getting numb and it it affects my balance. For this reason I am not able to have even a normal stress test EKG.
I was diagnosed first with Lumbar stenosis about 10 years ago and afterwards with Type II Diabetes.
To add to neuropathy my 15 years Meniere's disease causes sporadic dizziness episodes.
I fell several times, just based on balance problems and neuropathy caused weakness.
Went trough multiple tests with Neurogists, ENT, cariologists, endocrinologists. Tests helped to identify the problems, but have not helped to make my life easier.
Currently I rely on Physical Therapy, exercises and being very cautious walking . Up and down the curb, stairs, bending, streching are way beyond my limits.
I deeply appreciate you sharing your ways in fighting periferal neuropathy and balance problems.
Balance and numbness (is this a word?!) of feet are my peripheral neuropathy issues. I am 77 yrs. old and just diagnosed recently after being diagnoses with Diabetes 2. I am still trying to make sense of everything. One thing that seems to be truthful is that there is no cure for PN.
I read posts daily as I try to figure out what will work for me and what is a waste of time. I recently ordered a portable walker from Amazon and I am still trying to figure out my vanity vs. practicality of use. I do know that when I put my ego aside and use it that I feel much more stable and less worried about falling. The couple of times that I have fallen in the last 6 mos. have been due to possibly moving too quickly and not having a good foothold so I am also trying to be very conscientious of my movements and trying to realize that I cannot do things quickly anymore. Is this just an old age problem or PN? I don't know as everyone's experience is different. I use to love gardening, walking as a form or exercise but can no longer do that. I am sort of grieving these losses and trying to find alternatives like container gardening at waist level, congratulating myself when I get household chores accomplished ie. washing the kitchen floor etc. I don't know but this aging gracefully thing is real and difficult at the same time. I would just love to extend a blanket thought for all of us who are suffering from either physical or mental challenges and that is "please, please go easy on yourself". We are all our worst enemies and I think it is really easy to assign blame and to not extend to ourselves the same courtesy that we would to others. We are all in this together folks...one planet and just mankind. We are all doing the best that we can do. No, not everyday, but most days and that is ENOUGH!!!! Thanks.
@scain - Thanks for your post and I believe many of us can relate to your comments. Putting your ego aside is very difficult yet being safe and being less worried about falling is vital. I went through a similar situation when I decided to begin using a cane. It was a tough decision for me, but I need it for numbness and poor balance. After a few falls I decided that my ability to remain on two feet is more important. No falls in two years. I've had PN for 9 years and I've made adjustments along the way. After 52 years of being married, my wife passed away unexpectedly in February of this year and since then, I've had to make many more adjustments. I've placed safety above everything. Continue doing your gardening even at waist level. it works. Best to you!
May I ask what pain pills you purchased.
It looks like I will have to get a walker pretty soon. Any recommendations?

Oh I'm so sorry. Nothing seems to work. 😢
This almost looks like I wrote it
