Shingles shots

Has anyone had a shingles shot while having MAC? I am thinking of getting shingle shot but am worried about problems since I have MAC

I read up on it since I was still confused. There are a lot of different stipulations depending on your previous pneumonia vaccine history. But in the case of someone over 65 who has never received any pneumonia vaccine it says to get one dose of PCV20 (a dose of PPSV23 is not indicated). OR one dose of PCV15 followed by one dose of PPSV23 at least 1 year later. I wonder which of the two options is better because certainly the first is easier.

I had the shingles shot a few years ago, and I’ve had MAC for much longer than that. I had no problems or side effects. Your doctor could tell you if he knows any reason you should get it, but the people I know who had shingles told me how bad it was. Very painful. Take care!

Three years ago I had the Maderna shingle shot as recommended by my doctor. I am 72 years old. About 4 hours after the shot I started to itch intensely and broke out with a rash all over my body in clusters. It looked like chicken pox. I made 2 trips to the ER when my face became involved. It was frightening. Both times I was given medication and cream and it subsided. Since then I have seen an allergist who told me she has seen several other people who have had the same reaction to the Shingrix shot as I have. Since this happened, 3 years ago, I have been taking Zyrtec everyday. When I stop taking it the rash and intense itching returns. I believe I have Grover’s disease brought on by the Maderna Shingrix shot.

So sorry to hear your development after the shingle shot.
Just goes to show us again we are all different.
I believe things like immune system condition, unknown allergies , all present medications at the time of the vaccines, and stress come into play when we have the different vaccines. However, I sure do not know for sure.
At the time I had the Shingles vaccine I had been told I had BE but did not know I had a MAC infection, At the time I had the shingles vaccine I was clear of any major stress factors, not on any medications, and no known allergies. I also was not having any feeling of being unwell.
I had the vaccines two years ago at age 80, and no problems. I am very fortunate in many ways.

I recently had the two shingles shots after I had been diagnosed several months earlier with both MAC and Bronch. I am 71 and had no side-effects.

Hi Irene-
I posted "Food Allergy and Bronchiectasis" with my thoughts all going like this in the last few days, since Thursday....first, insect bite, then went to food allergy, then thinking aspergillus and have come to believe it is a bout with shingles. I had shingles three times in the last 20 years before having the shingles vaccine in Oct. 2023 and this will be my fourth time, first time since the vaccine, if my final thoughts are right.
I have messages in to the doctors...dermatologist and pulmonologist(s).
My dermatologist in the last couple of years wrote prescriptions for Valacyclovir tablets to have on hand in case of emergency. I called the pharmacist and we both agreed that with my not being on any other medication and with what we discussed we decided I should start the Valacyclovir.
If this is the shingles again this is the worst case for me. So far no real pain just the welts, a bit of itching and the feeling of scabs forming. No telling why it surfaced again other than it could have been being directly in the sun for too long. I was in the sun for five minutes today and after I came in I felt weak and like I might be going to fetch up and heave....sat in the cooler house and felt better immediately.
My story for today and we all have our daily stories.

I take it you only had the one bout of shingles???
Hope you are managing well today, I know it's not easy.

I just did a quick AI search which I think you should read for sure! It says you can get an allergic reaction to the sun and the rash you describe sounds exactly the same. I made a screen shot of it. But not sure that will work. I could email it to you if you want but would need your email if you provide it in private conversation.

Thank you Irene.
I took the medication at 3:00P.M. now 6:00P.M. and I feel some relief or I'm not concentrating on it. Time will tell. Hopefully the dermatologist will give me five minutes to look see tomorrow.
Yes, after giving much, much thought I do believe it was the stress, for me, of being in the sun a good few days ago and what I was involved with while in the sun. I have noticed in the last year or so that my legs will begin to develop a burning sensation after a bit of time in the sun. So it also could be an allergic reaction coupled and followed by shingles???????????
I need to mention the burning sensation to the dermatologist, I have failed to mention that to her, failed to remember.
