Surgeon missed the margins. 2nd surgery
Good morning all,
Had lumpectomy 3-18 went back on 3-28 thinking surgeon would release me to oncologist but No ! She told me they missed the margins. I was kinda dumbfounded at first, she explained to me that they have to go back in and cut more and scrap. Then asked me.... do you have a problem with this ? Of course I have a problem with this, who wouldn't ! She just told me cancer cells were pushing on the margin. So I'm headed for another surgery this Friday.
I'm loosing faith in the medical system fast. The nurse came in to schedule my surgery and said it happens like no big deal.
So I guess my question is, have any of you gone through this ? Did it change anything for you ? I did do some research about it and didn't like what I read. But have no choice on this. Thank you and
Have a blessed day

freebird67. Meant to tell you to look up Verzenio online. It's scary.
❤️
I will do that. You have a wonderful blessed weekend 🙏
I Guess you didn't get my previous message, but Verzenio is a cancer drug. Please look it up on your computer and take note of the side effects. Scary. My oncologist lowered my dose from 200 mg to 100 mg, twice daily and Im doing great now. But when I started on the 200 mg twice daily, I couldn't eat, no taste, no appetite, diarrhea, threw up one time, nothing tasted, it was a mess. Now I'm concerned about the Prolia. I feel like you do. Bombarding my body with too much. However, I have a friend who took 4 Prolia shots with zero side effects. I'm having a meeting with my doctor just to discuss Prolia versus Reclast. Hopefully this coming week. I hate "pending" stuff. Hugs
anniez1943,
I hope your doing well today. I'm glad your going to talk with your
doctor. I think that's the best way to go, and hope he can put your mind at ease. I knew I would have to start taking some kind of osteoporosis meds, I am just really funny about starting to many new meds all at the same time. For me I just won't do that, I waited a year and probably should not have waited that long. Plus I was not happy about going in to have an I V to do it. They called it an infusion. That's when I said no . Now I'm taking 1 pill a month. Works for me.
Im happy to hear that your doing so much better from all those nasty side effects. They do sound horrible ! And I did look up your cancer medication, it makes taking Anastrozole sound like a walk in the park. Please let me know how your doing. Hugs and blessings

What is the one pill a month that you are taking for osteoporosis? I sure hope it works for you. And I pray that your scans/xrays show positive results. Blessings.
I take Ibandronate Sodium 150. I just started this , so we'll see how this goes. Im hopeful ☺️ and that's the generic version of Boniva.
It has it's side effects too
Yes it happened to me 24 years ago but I was informed a couple days after surgery and went back within a few days. It seems to be a common occurrence with lumpectomy surgery. I’m now fighting cancer in opposite breast but it is invasive lobular so treating with medication first to shrink tumor then will have lumpectomy (hopefully) instead of mastectomy.
Buckokey, I'm sorry to hear your going through this after 24 years. Yes I'm learning that missing the margin is a common thing.
Both my mother and older sister had full mastectomy, so I really didn't know what to expect. I hope medication works and they are able to the lumpectomy, i will keep you in my thoughts and prayers
I had to have a 2nd surgery due to unclear margins, so I understand completely. She was able to get clear margins at that point but she didn't remove the entire length of the scar when she went back in and that has always bothered me.
