Lobular Breast Cancer: Let's share and support each other

Posted by mjay @mjay, Jul 28, 2022

Since lobular breast cancer is only 10-15% of all breast cancer diagnoses and now understood to be a unique subset of breast cancer as a whole with different characteristics than ductal breast cancer necessitating different treatments and inherently different risks, I would like to see a separate category under the breast cancer forum so that the most appropriate info is being disseminated for this specific subset of BC. Just a thought.

Yes, same thing happened to me. First one they found was during my annual mammogram. My local surgeon didn’t call for a MRI. Mayo requested during my second opinion. They found 2 more cancerous spots. Went from a lumpectomy to a full mastectomy with chemo and radiation. I would insist on a MRI if I were you. Ultrasound and mammogram didn’t pick up either of those.

I found the 1st lump myself. Same thing as you where Mammogram and Ultrasound didn't find 2nd. MRI did. Both removed, next up is radiation.

Do you think it's ncecessary to go back in after lumpectomy to clean up a margin that had pre-cancerous cells if I'm going to do radiation next? I have conflicting opinions for the protocol. Surgeon says radiation will take care of killing these cells, Oncologist wants them removed, then radiation.

Had Lumpectomy on my left breast 2 weeks ago. I had ILC. I'm exhausted and feeling weak I can't seem to get much sleep. When I wake up I can't get back to sleep. Anybody else going through this?

I had the same surgery 2 weeks ago. I'm a little tired and weak, but sleeping well. I find myself making spelling and math errors and not wanting to do anything extra. I'm taking vitamins and trying to be gentle on myself. I have a lot of pain in my left breast. I take 2 advil every 6 hours and ice it. Do you have pain? Meletonin helps. You may want to get one called Mid-Nite which is a short dos if you need just a few more hours of sleep. I pray you get your strength back.

2 weeks ago diagnosed with invasive lubular carcinoma. I've now had all the tests and in 2 days im going to oncologist to see what they think is the bests treatment for me. The problem is I won't go near chemo, radiation or hormone therapy because of the side effects. I cannot bring myself to doing that. I'm sure people will take issue with that but i just can't go through anything like that. In 2 days I will know stage or if its in Lymph nodes and all that good stuff. Btw, there are reasons I won't go near chemo, radiation or hormone therapy up and beyond the already known reasons. Mine go a little deeper as to why there is no way. I'll check back in once I have the dr. appt in 2 days.

I'm reading "Outsmart Your Cancer" by Tanya harter Pierce. There are SO many ways to treat cancer in this book. The hardest part may be deciding which option to choose. Low Dose Naltrexone, Poly-MVA, Laetrile, are good for breat cancer. They say a lot about Protocel, but it's not the best for breast cancer. I wish you all the best and look forward to hearing your success story.

These decisions can be difficult to make. Is the surgeon refusing to do additional surgery to clean up the margin? If so, it might be time for a second opinion. Actually I might first ask the radiation oncologist, who would be an authority on this. Do keep in touch and tell us what you decide.

Thanks. I Am sleeping a little better. Still extremely tired. I was told that Tylenol is better for pain not Advil. I take 2 500mg every 4-6 hours and I have no pain. Thanks for the info about Mid-Nite.
