Anyone had an MUA after a total knee replacement?
I am currently 1 week out from my MUA. Feeling a bit frustrated and wondering if I expect too much too quickly.
The Dr. showed me pics from the procedure of my knee totally flexed to 135* and extended to 2*. Now it is like starting all over again in PT.
I can get to 120* and maybe 4* after almost an hour of PT, with therapist helping.
Furthermore, I objected to the use of a steroid injection due to the risks... I was a "good patient" and allowed it as my surgeon knows best...
Major side effects for sure, still haven't seen the benefits.
This knee better start working.
Any one else go through similar?

Cathy, that is a good flex after MUA so just keep working with PT. As to steroid injection, they gave me a pack (pills). Didn't really help. Most of what I heard is swelling takes a year to get back to normal. Mine, after Revision and MUA (that was a "bomb) is still swollen about .4 inches over right. Have you watched any U-Tube on Dr. Adam Rosen? Just put in TKR in U-tube app and he should come up. Some very good info.
Just celebrated my year anniversary of my new knee.
I can get to 125* after my morning exercises, and stay at 0* extension- so I am happy that it’s functional.
Thank you!
Hi I'm so sorry your frustrated. I have a MUA schedule next week my surgery was 3/10, I'm soooo nervous. I have no PT right now it's all in me to exercise. The pain is constant, sleepless night's due to pain/spasms.
You will rock it.
Coming up on my 2 year from my replacement soon. I still would only give it a C+, even after my MUA. It’s functional. About 115-120* without exercise or warm up.
I have my other one to contemplate. I I’ll wait as long as I can before replacing it. Exploring the newer Jiffy method.
A new knee will never be like your old one. Just less arthritic pain. But it limits what you can do.
I encourage all to get an MUA right away, 12 weeks or under for optimal gain. Mention it to your surgeon from the get go so insurance covers it if you are having issues with flexion or extension.
I am 1-1/2 yrs. out from TKR. it is working well but I did not sleep for a long time. Seems a nerve problem as no night pain after taking Pregaboln but want to stop that sometime soon. Since then now having night pain in the other knee. Have to follow up. But what is MUA?
