Online this warning appears for Remicade - please contact your physician:
Remicade may lower the amount of white blood cells and platelets in your body. This may make it harder for you to fight off infections and puts you at risk for bleeding. While this is a rare side effect of infliximab, it can be a serious one.
I was on Remicade once a month for almost 5 years. Then I had my colon removed so no more Remicade or other immunosuppressant drug. Never had and bleeding problems. I will say that when I was on Remicade I had no pains in my joints and my skin cleared up from psoriasis.
I was on Remicade for two years and it didn’t work at first then worked for a short time and then stopped. I am electing to have my colon removed so I am interested to know if you are enjoying life more now that your colon is removed. I can barely eat anything now that I’m not on any IBD meds.
My quality of life after the colon remove surgery is 100% better. Am I back to what I was years ago? No, but I am way better than I was. I have some small problems but nothing that is debilitating. My number of bowl movements per day is less than half of what it was before the surgery. I was 72 when I had the surgery which is right about at the age limit when they want to use the "J Pouch" but I tolerated all of the surgeries very well. I only wish I would have had the surgery done before I did.
