Has anyone who has developed histamine intolerance from long COVID used any of the DAO or Histamine Blockers? Also is anyone taking Probiotics? Would appreciate any info on worked for you.

@essiee Not that it is any consolation, but I have found very little helpful information on low histamine diet. Even the reading material my Doctor gave me wasn't very helpful answering what to do and what not to do. The most helpful thing I found and use religiously is an app on my phone called 'Intolerances'. Created by a German company it has many foods with their histamine content and whether they inhibit or release histamine. Includes short and helpful articles. It shows Kimchi as a bad actor for histamine with 1.8mg per 1.25 ounce serving. I aim at staying under 4mg per day so Kimchi is a histamine diet wrecker. Depending on the type of yogurt, it can be a histamine diet wrecker too. Anything fermented or aged is generally bad. No red wine, no tomatoes, no bacon, all are histamine explosions.

I think just googling for a list of low histamine foods would be helpful.

DAO is Diamine Oxidase which is an enzyme that helps breakdown histamines

I was diagnosed with histamine intolerance in February of 2021. I tried famotidine which I couldn't take due to side effects. I also tried Allegra every 12 hours instead of 24 hours. Both were suggested by my allergist. I couldn't take either. I tried a strict low histamine diet but became nutrient deficient. It is difficult to stay away from foods with histamine as all foods contain histamine to a more or less degree. I understand the effect is cumulative so if you eat low histamine foods all day by the time dinner comes whatever you eat causes your body to have too much histamine.

I began using DAO recently before dinner and find that it helps greatly.

I have intolerance to every food since all contain histamine to some degree. I am also allergic to nightshades and too many other foods to list here. The foods that seem to be the worst are all fish as well as tomatoes. I have had food allergies since I was a little girl and am now 87 years old. I have tried every treatment through the years to no avail. Unfortunately there has been little information regarding allergies.

I am taking Bravado Labs Histamine Block. One before dinner. I find that I get very little reaction when I eat fish or tomatoes or any high histamine food.

I hope this helps.

thx for your reply. i'm almost 79 and never had any food allergies til after covid. will definitely look into the prod. you suggested. yes, seafood is a big no-no for me but i usually get foot tingling and dizziness after eating almost anything. i've been following survivor corps on facebook since becoming a long hauler and these are all the long haulers in the thousands or millions who post everything about their illness/treatment etc. which is a wealth of info.

jj, I am trying to get started on probiotics for the Histamine Intolerance, but I am so sensitive, it takes time to see which I can tolerate or not. One has to make sure the probiotic is not histamine producing too. Also, it would be good to choose ones that actually degrade histamine. I am reading information about this on the website Mast Cell 360.

I just started taking ProBiota HistaminX . It is histamine friendly so will see. I will also research the Mast Cell 360 that you are looking at.

Keep us posted how this works. I may buy this next time. To clarify - I bought the Bravado Histamine Block from Amazon.
I don't think I have long covid since I didn't get covid till 1/24. My neurologist feels I have long vax. Besides histamine intolerance, I had 2 TKR's which cause me more pain than before the surgeries. I developed glaucoma from being on prednisone for 18 months for PMR I have scoliosis, hyperesthesia in my legs, scalp paresthesia and small fiber neuropathy. I also have other things that living to my ripe old age brought to me. I try to eat organic foods when I can. I exercise for an hour plus every morning.
